Just wondering if any of you own a crossover or small SUV that is a 2010 or newer? DH just accepted a new job that will allow us to trade in our car for something bigger. I don't want a gas guzzler, just something taller that will be easy to maneuver a car seat in and out of. Prefer AWD. I've read good reviews about the GMC Terrain and Chevrolet Equinox as far as good gas mileage for AWD, but I wanted to see if anyone had first hand experience with them or would recommend another model.

Re: Best SUV?
I looked at the Edge and the Escape and I think both are largely overpriced. I haven't looked too much into Hyundai but fuzzily remember a commercial about them having a great 10 year warranty. Do they still offer that?
Honda CRV all the way. I have a lot of loyalty to Honda, the cars last forever (my sister's 1998 CRV is in great shape) and retain their re-sale value.
good gas mileage too.
I love the room in the Explorers, but I don't love the mileage. I'm a cheapy when it comes to gas. We currently drive an Altima, and it gets about 28 mpg. It just drives horribly in the snow, and even in the rain sometimes.
my happy boy
Really? My H drives it most of the time but he seems to get good mileage. I think ours has the flex fuel option as well. His tank of gas costs the same to fill up as my Honda Accord and seems to last pretty long but he does more highway driving whereas I do more stop and go traffic driving.
I'm sure the new models with flex fuel does make a difference. I'm sure I'm thinking of the way the bigger SUVs were before improved fuel technology. I drive mostly stop and go in the city as well.
We literally just leased a 2013 Infiniti JX35 and so far so good. I've never driven an Infinity before but it had everything we were looking for... Space - all of the smaller crossovers I looked at were too tiny for car seat & stroller/trunk space, Decent gas mileage, Good horsepower - I didnt want a car that always felt like it was chugging to accelerate, etc). It is also beautiful inside and had some great safety features that my husband was excited about (AWD, It beeps at you if you're crossing over your lane, automatically applies the brakes if you get too close to the car in front of you, backup camera, front camera etc).

Just another one to consider
We have a 2012 Chevy Traverse and I like it a lot. We have the 8 seater, so two benches. With just the two boys we keep the back seat down 90% of the time and have plenty of storage space. Once the twins arrive we will put the boys all the way in the back and the twins side by side in the middle row. I can fit my double stroller (sit and stand deluxe) in the back with the backseat up but nothing else will go back there with it.
My main complaint (and this also goes for the Highlander and Pilot since they are all essentially the same vehicle and my friends have them so I'm familiar with them) is that the split in the middle seat is on the passenger side. As a mom, it would be easier to have the driver's side seat fold down. As it is now, I will have to have one baby behind me and then I can't see them. And once they are toddlers it's a pain to have them behind you because you can't see them to hand back sippy cups or whatever. (at lights, mind you, it's not like I'm driving around staring in the backseat or anything, but enh, it does happen)
I would love to have an Infiniti, but since I am quitting my job to stay home, I don't want to spend a lot of extra money on the payment. I'm trying to keep the payment within $100 of what we pay now. You have an awesome vehicle. I'm jealous.
Totally understand... Best of luck with your search! There seem to be some great car deals out there now, Im sure all will work out
I have the Toyota Rav4. It's a 2008 and I LOVE it. I went from driving a 2 door accord to it and yes, it felt big but not that big. It's easy to maneuver in a parking lot and I get great gas mileage. They make a 4 and 6 cylinder. It also has automatic 4wd which is nice. You don't have to do anything unless you get stuck and there's a "lock in" button to lock in the 4wd. But driving in the Ohio snow I've not had to use it and I usually dont even know when the 4wd kicks in.
