Re: daisy cottage cheese?

  • As far as I know, any dairy products sold in the US must be pasteurized. I am sure you are fine, especially since Daisy is a well-known brand.

  • It should say on the container.  Or at least Darigold's does.

  • It's almost impossible to find non-pasteurized dairy products in the US, especially from common supermarket brands. You're fine.

  • On the side of the Daisy cottage cheese, it says "cultured" skim milk.  I can't find any actual data online that says that cultured milk products have been pasteurized, but on the same token, I know the laws in the US are pretty strict about raw milk, etc.  A lot of the stuff I read online was on forums, and they all said that cultured products had live bateria in there (the healthy, good for your digestive system kind!) and therefore weren't pasteurized but were good for your system.  But again, that was just every day people and not hard data.

FWIW, I have a carton of Breakstone's in the fridge and I just checked it, and it *does* say pasteurized skim milk.  Personally, I would finish off the carton of Daisy's and then just switch brands for the remainder of your pregnancy, if cottage cheese is something you eat a lot.  I don't think the Daisy's will be harmful or anything, but just to be on the safe side. :)

I just sent them an inquiry regarding the SAME question...

they need to re-do their labels...just so pregnant folk can have a peace of mind and some cottage cheese/ sour cream/ Daisy goodness
  • I had the same question!

Here is the response I got from the company.

     Dear XXXXx,

Thank you for contacting Daisy Brand regarding our sour cream and cottage cheese.  Daisy Brand Products are pasteurized and made with Grade A Cream. Any milk product that is produced and sold across state line must be pasteurized.

I have passed the details of your email on to our Management Team.  I hope you continue to enjoy the great taste of Daisy Brand.

  • I just called Daisy to ask them if their cottage cheese is pasteurized and they said yes, that in order for any of their products to cross the US border, they have to be pasteurized.

    I hope this helps!
