Breast Pump - BCBS DME Suppliers?

I was wondering if any of you have had success in finding a DME supplier that is currently carrying Breast Pumps and is part of the Anthem BCBS network? I have reached out to Anthem and they can't even help me! I would love to have insurance cover my breast pump, however I have already spent far too much time searching for a place that carries them!

Thanks!

Re: Breast Pump - BCBS DME Suppliers?

  • I researched a decent amount and couldn't find any. I went through most of the list.

Eventually I just bought one from Amazon. Then I had to work with an Anthem rep to make sure they found the right code. It was considered DME out of network, so it wasn't covered the same percent.

Walgreens was on my DME list and they sell pumps, but only online. My local Walgreens and Anthem couldn't help me figure that mess out.

  • Sorry you are having trouble. I have BCBS but it is the federal PPO plan and pumps are exclusively provided through CVS Caremark. I just had to call an request one. Im sorry your BCBS plan is making things so difficult.

  • I just went through this yesterday with Anthem and called about ten suppliers before I found one. In the Chicagoland area, Mark Drug in Wheeling has them and will ship them in one business day. Walgreens Home Care was also able to help but it would take a week for them to process. I used Mark Drug and had to have my doctor fax a prescription and face sheet, then I picked up my Medela pump two hours later.

  • Just called edge park. Medela  is not on on their website but if you want one just call. I ordered a PISA ( already have a freestyle). I am excited to get it and compare the two.

  • I have Anthem and just went through this.  The only medical supplier I could find in my area that was approved was the hospital I gave birht at.  Does your hospital's pharmacy carry them?

  • Just want to clarify some on this as I work for a dme company in rochester ny. When calling your insurance company about the pumps, most customer service reps will quickly tell you they are covered only when medically necessary, which is part of their old coverage criteria. Ask to speak with a supervisor. They will tell you they are covered in full, not even subject to a deductible or c/p as the pumps are now mandatory. They used to only cover manuals unless proven by your doc that it wasnt working. No script needed, no c/p, no deductible! Yayyy : 5852278750 call if you need a supplier! Oh and we accept all BCBS including Anthem
  • This company supplies them in GA (Georgia).  https://www.msa-corp.com/companies/medihomecare.aspx  I have spent the last 2 hours on the phone with BCBS trying to find a supplier.  I eventually wound up on the manufacturer's website (Hygeia) and they had a great resource https://www.hygeiainc.com/dmes-who-carry-hygeia-breast-pumps/

I just found out abt this brand of pumps and the difference between a closed and open system.  Hygeia & Ameda have closed systems (no milk spores) and Medela is generally an open system.  I didn't realize that with an open system, you shouldn't really use it with your second child, much less sell it to a stranger.  My Breast feeding lady recommended this brand, and now I'm getting one from BCBS!
  • I don't have Anthem but the supplier for my insurance was Discount Drug Mart...maybe check there.

  • I had BCBS and had no local providers within 100 miles, ha. Two big ones you can get them through are Edgepark and Byram.

  • I have Anthem and I got mine from Edgepark.
  • Turns out there are 2 durable medical equipment provider in the Lafayette, LA area that provide breast pumps.  One charges about $157 for the "accessories" and the insurance pays $142 for the pump.  Is that legal???  OMG!

Airway Home Medical had my Medela Pump in Style Advance in stock. All I had to do was call AJ. She was so helpful. She answered all of my questions.  She gave me links for information about different breast pumps so I could make an informed decision.  She called my doctor and my BCBS insurance, filled out all the forms and shipped the breast pump to my home.  I did have to pay the 20% co-pay which was all of $28.40.  I told my co-worker about Airway and she ordered a Medela Freestyle.

$28.40 may not be free, but it's better than paying $157.00 or $350.00. Ha!  Anyone in Louisiana looking for a DME that provides insurance breast pumps should contact Airway Home Medical.  They take the time to talk to you.  They have a variety of breast pumps and you do not have to pay for the "accessories".   www.airwayhme.com or (337) 237-7377  Don't give up!
  • Does anyone know if there are any California DME providers that BCBS works with who supply the Spectra S1 pump?  I have researched and everyone says that this new Spectra S1 hospital grade pump is one of the best options for working moms.  It is intuitive and easy to use and great quality.  It is super light and has a rechargeable battery.  I see DME suppliers that carry it across the county but BCBS says they won't cover it unless it is at one of their "in network" providers.

So - anyone in California had any luck getting this Spectra S1 covered in network at 100%?

If not, I will be buying a Hygeia (my 2nd choice) from yummymummystore.com
