BFing Mamas checkin - whose still with me??

I didn't expect to make it to 16 months.  N is definitely headed toward self-weaning as she has started dropping her am feed in favor of breakfast.  She still nurses before naps and bedtime but even those are getting shorter.  I'm glad to be getting some of myself back (and that means DH can do more wake ups and naps too which is a win win) but I'm very emotional about it too.  I think partly because it was so hard at first and because it has been so long -- that and I don't think we are having another LO so the ending is bittersweet indeed.

I have such new appreciation every day for how emotional my mom gets, still even now that I'm 36, about milestones.

  • We still do morning and evenings.

Not sure how long we'll go. It still works for us, so I'm just going with it for now.

  • We do wake up, which usually put him back to sleep 1 or 2 more hours. Again around breakfast, usually nap time and again bed time. I don't get the feeling he wants to give it up yet though I wish he would. I am SO happy no more night time nursing though and he falls asleep in his crib and not on me anymore.

I never would have thought id still be nursing, ever. But here I am!

  • We do mornings and before bed.  He still falls asleep nursing, but has been sleeping through the night for almost a couple months now (knock on wood), so it works for me. On the weekends I still nurse on demand and before his nap.  And lately he wants to nurse after work and a TON on the weekends, so I've been letting him.  We've hit a new separation anxiety phase with the holiday travel, moving up a new room at daycare, plus a brand new teacher there.  No plans to stop breastfeeding any time soon.  Just going on his schedule for now.

  • I'm right with ya.

We had gotten down to 4 times a day (with the occasional middle of the night wake up) before Thanksgiving but two trips with terrible stranger anxiety, teething, and a cold have kicked us back up to pretty much full time nursing.

  • We're still doing at least 4 times a day. When he was so k, he wouldn't eat and we were pretty much nursing nonstop though. It was rather intense.

  • Still going 1-4 times depending on the day. But before I even found out I was pregnant, she would nurse and then sign "more milk" so I think my supply is really petering out already. She clearly has an emotional attachment so we will continue for a little while longer, but I think we will end up weaning sooner than later at this point.
  • All day everyday well about 3 or 4 times a day. All night though. He doesn't want to end, but I'm feeling done!

  • Aw! I think all of you are awesome! Everyday I forget little by little the "last time" I nursed Bo which was the day he turned 14 months. I never thought I would forget, but I miss our cuddles and how I could be there for him. Try and hold on to this as long as you can...It is so precious.
