This is the first winter that I've ditched the treadmill, and have decided to continue running outside. I'm looking for recommendations on running tights, and any other "must haves" to survive the low temps. TIA!
ETA: To be more specific...I'm looking for a good pair of insulated running tights. If you have a pair, what brand are they?
Re: Cold weather running gear...
Lululemon are the best running tights. Get the ones specifically for runners. They are pricey but seriously they are the best (they don't stretch and fall and have nice pockets). I also like Nike pants but if you need a pocket for keys (or gels or whatever) they don't always have one so make sure you check.
For tops, I just get anything moisure wicking (just go to ***'s or Sports Authority). I like Nike and Underarmour the best. Lululemon tops are also great but again so pricey and not much different than other stuff.
Have fun! The treadmill is terrible. You won't look back!
I should have clarified...temperatures in the 20's.
Thanks for clarifying. Here in ND 20's is a nice day! Lately, when I have ran it is around zero. I wear usually plain pants, not insulated and an insulated running shirt (the sweat wicking that is fleece lined), and usually a running jacket on top of it. I have a couple in different weights, so it all depends on how cold it is.
Also, I always use gloves, I just buy the cheap $1 pairs, and I either have a stretchy fleece hat or use a bondy band over my ears.
I have Under Armour running tights and I lvoe them, as well as UA gloves and a hat. i woudl say a warm hat that waicks sweat is key, and so are gloves.
As far as the top, if it is really cold (20's), i would probably wear a Champion long sleeve mock turtleneck running shirt I got at Target and over that i swear by my Under Armour hooded shirt that is sort of brushed fleece inside and wcking materal. I am so warm with that once I get going, i don't need a jacket over it....I think i have something similar to this (and I paid full price for it, this is a great deal!)

It depends on how cold "cold weather" is... If it's above 30 degrees, I will usually wear adidas running tights - very comfy with zippers on both calves. Now I just roll the top down under my preggo belly
Along with the tights, I wear high compression socks, so they overlap under the tights.
I'm near the Canadian border and some runs can be rather chilly... so if it's below zero (or even a windy 20 degrees above), I will wear those tights with another layer of plain old cotton leggings underneath. If it's colder than -20, I'm on the treadmill
On top, I wear layers layers and more layers... gloves... a hat or headband and a face guard of some sort.
I've found the brand of tights doesn't really matter - just be careful if there are any rough seams inside... major chafing and no fun
Happy cold weather running!
This is exactly what I do!
x2 on UA tights. I have the "frosty tights" and really like them. I also usually wear a coldgear (UA) shirt and a running jacket if it's cold. Fleece hat and cheapo gloves and you're good to go!
Baby Girl #2 is on her way!
