So I have been taking Zofran for nausea for the past few weeks. I am now so constipated that I feel like my stomach is going to explode. : I have tried yogurt, fruit juice lots of water but no luck. Is anyone else having trouble ?
Me! My Dr recommended taking Colace (a stool softener) along with the Zofran. It seems to help a little...I'm having a bowel movement about EOD. I will say I get very crampy before hand, it's pretty painful!
This. I eat two to four prunes every day. Just keep up the water. Taking colace can work too ... tricky though. Sometimes taking one isn't enough, but two is too much (TMI). Ew.
Having the same issues and on zofran as well. I'll be picking up some colace this weekend for sure. I drink water like a mad woman and lots of fiber, but it isn't helping.
I thought I was drinking enough water too...80-100 oz/day and my OB said that I really should be aiming for 100-120 oz/day. She also said Colace or Metamucil would be fine to take. Good luck!
Papaya n spinach are my best laxatives if you can tolerate them...ESP papaya!!! It's my new best fruit...it makes me go right away...
Kuchious, take this with a grain of salt and maybe do some googling after you read this. I am a fruit girl. Especially berries, mangoes and papayas. I have read tons of stuff in books and online about how papaya can be a bad thing for pregnant ladies. Something about stimulating the uterus/contractions. Again, I am not a doctor, nutritionist, etc. but I figured I would give you a heads-up about the whole papaya thing. As much as I would love to devour a papaya on a daily basis...everything I've read says don't do it while you're pregnant.
With that said, constipation was the first symptom I had before I even knew I was pregnant and has been the thorn in my side for the past 2 months. As I said before, I love fruit and I have been making myself fruit smoothies a couple of times a week with frozen berries, bananas, apples, pears, mangoes...anything that catches my eye. I've been throwing in some kale or spinach leaves and I have to tell you, give it a couple of hours and it works wonders...at least for me.
Hi, Adriainman! I am 10 weeks and try to ease constipation by drinking fruit yogurt smoothies for breakfast, drinking water with lemon, and I also take a Calcium-magnesium powder at night that helps regulate my "system" (I've been doing this for 6 years, but upped the dose a little because of the constipation.) The smoothies I make have a lot of fiber from the frozen unsweetened berries and even add a bit of frozen spinach or kale, and it helps me get some liquids because I don't normally drink a lot of water. Last night I was feeling pretty bloated so ate a bowl of cereal with a lot of frozen berries instead of regular dinner food. Felt much better in the morning! I hope this helps you, good luck!
I feel like I have experimented a lot the past few weeks, lol. Activia, pears, grapes, prunes, prune juice, then finally if those don't help milk of magnesia.

Oh man. Constipation was my first symptom (and only symptom for a while). I have tried it ALL: Fiber, prunes, apples, apple juice, yogurt, kefir, LOTS of water. Stool softener (Colace but generic) helped a little bit. My miracle, mommy's best friend: Miralax.(I use the generic, it's cheaper) Seriously. Boom. Cleaned me out, keeps me regular. I take some every other day. Add it to apple juice, it has no taste, just a little grainy.
I have been constipated as well. I was told for immediate relief if you are in pain, colace won't work. Use a glycerine supplement which is also over the counter (not fun though). Colace is more of a preventative and works after time. I was in a lot of pain last Friday. I've now upped my fiber intake. Bought some fiber one bars for snacks, fiber cereal, raspberries, dried fruit and am drinking lots of water. I feel much better. Good luck!!

I was very constipated when I was pregnant with DD.
You basically either have to take Colace or drink lots of prune juice. Pears and grapes help too.
