Christiana

When I was pregnant I made an appointment to go visit Christiana to see what their maternity department looked like to see if I wanted to stick with Union or change to Christiana. Even though it was super early depending on where I would have delivered depends on the doctor I would need so even though I'm not pregnant anymore I decided I'm still going to go. I know we want to have more kids so it will be good to know from the beginning. I hope they dont think I'm some crazy lady touring hospital's whos not even pregnant lol Its this Friday at 7pm.

Re: Christiana

  • I haven't been to any other maternity wards than Christiana. and I didn't stay there I just walked through there when my neice was born, but my SIL loved it.

I think it makes sense to know if its somewhere you would want to deliver. if that is the case you'll need to change dr's right?

Yea, I would have to go to a whole new practice. It would stink because I like the practice because they do ultrasounds every month for everyone so its nice to see the babe and to see that everything is ok. Its just nice not having to go through the extra hassle of not needing to schedule special appointments just to have an ultrasound at the hospital and the time worrying if there is something that doesnt sound right.

  • I delivered at Christiana and I am so glad that I did. Seems how I was high risk and ended up having a lot of issues I probably would have been transferred to Christiana anyway. As for the tour.. When I went everyone was at different levels of pregnancy and I don't think it would be weird at all for you to go.
  • three of my friends delivered at Christiana and they all seemed pleased with there experience. I live closer to Dover so I will be delivering at Kent general hospital.

  • I'm very interested in seeing Christiana because everyone that has delivered there really liked it but it seems like every time H and I have to deal with Christiana its a whole boat of red tape we always have to deal with to get to someone or find out any information. When Annabelle was less than a week old they had us wait 3 hours to get her checked for jaundice and we werent in the ER. I want to go in there with a very neutral mind though and see what they are all about.

  • I delivered both my boys at Christiana and I loved it! The nurses were great, I loved the private rooms. I went into labor with L on my own and was induced with E and both experiences were great!

Also a week after L was born I got a blood clot in my leg and had to go back into the hospital and went into the maternity floor. They were awesome then too. They let DH and L stay in the hospital with me.

  • I HATED Christiana when I had my daughter there 14 years ago... I had my son 6 years ago at Union and loved it... I've heard that Christiana has changed so maybe I need to go on a tour... how do you go about setting that up?

  • I live 5 minutes from Christiana so it's a no-brainer for me.  I had a great experience last time, so I will live in denial that any other places are better :)

    Call the hospital. 302-733-2408.

My sister had her first there almost 16 years ago and it wasn't the best experience. She had two more boys in 2009 and 2010 and loved it. I would definitely check it out. Even if you chose to go back to Union, you'll have a more recent experience to compare it to. Christiana has changed a lot.
