VBAC

Too early to look around???

My son is 2 and 1/2 and we plan on TTC when he is a few months before turning 4. I still have a little while, but I know it will creep up on me quick. I had a csection with my son b/c he was breech. It was scheduled, but I started having contractions a week earlier and they went on and delivered me since he was breech. They didn't want labor progressing any further. Other than my section I had a healthy pregnancy and all.
My OB said I am a good candidate for a VBAC. However, my local hospital will not allow them. When should I start searching for a new office...30 min away in a different state, and set up an appointment? Or should I at least find an office that will allow me to VBAC. I'm also thinking of a midwife this time instead of an OB.
I want to try to avoid a section as much as possible, but still want to deliver in a hospital or at least a birthing center very close to the hospital.
I want to keep my local GYN for regular checkups and stuff, just need to look around for someone else to deliver. I know I need to find someone with a low c section rate and that has my own views.
Any tips would be helpful? Ty!
Also...I had severe PPD/PPA with DS and still take meds right now. I am going to try and get off of them before TTC, but it may not happen??? Could my meds screw up my chance to VBAC? Any other PPD moms deliver VBAC?

Sorry so long!

  • It is never too early to start looking around. I had my midwife, and doula picked out before we were pregnant this time around.  I would suggest that you contact your local ICAN group because they will be the ones with good information about doctors that are truly VBAC supporters and they can point  you in the right direction.
  • I agree that it is not too early to look.  Your meds should not interfere with your ability to VBAC.  GL :)

  • Ty ladies. I did contact ICAN. We don't have any chapter in my area, but their is one 30 min away. I'll start there.

  • I didn't have PPD, but I did have to take anxiety medication before and after DD1, and I had a successful VBAC with DD2.
