Anyone's pets acting differently?

We have two dogs and a cat. I hadn't noticed any change in behavior until I was about 16 weeks. One of the dogs, the younger, more energetic one, suddenly became ridiculously needy-always in my face, wanting my attention. At first, I thought it was because H was out of town and I was home on break, but he's come back, and I've gone back to work. I'm blaming the baby for this. Anyone else notice unusual behaviors from their pets, especially in the last few weeks?

Re: Anyone's pets acting differently?

  • Both of our dogs have been doing that. It's crazy! They just want to cuddle ALL the time and they ALWAYS have to be held. They normally like to be around but never this much. I'm a cuddler though so I'll accept the change lol

  • My dog has been treating me differently since the second line turned pink.
I'm so crafty, I make people.
  • When I go over to SO's parent's house, their cat who normally wants nothing to do with me is all over me. He normally likes to knead on my tummy, not comfortable, if I stop petting him.

  • I had thought the whole pets acting different thing was pretty nuts-o, but apparently my cat finally clued in after Christmas.  I thought it was just him being needy after we'd left him alone for the holidays - but he's been persistently much more in my face than usual.  My dogs are the same attention-wh*res they've always been - so it's hard to tell if they're being needier or not ;-)

  • Our Shih tzu Yorkie mix is stuck to me like glue and so loving, I love it. DH's bullmastiff simply regards me as the woman who feeds him.

  • Every time I have been pregnant my dogs have been all over me. I love to cuddle with my puppies but man sometimes I just want to be able to breathe...lol
  • My cat has always been more like a short meowing dog, but lately its gotten even worse! Shes gone from just following me around and laying somewhere near me, to on top of me whenever I sit or lay down, so much so that she tried to jump in the bathtub with me last night. Then she realized it was full of water and just laid on the egde with that..."Mom, what are you doing?" Look.

  • We have 2 cats (and an 18 month old daughter) and between the 3 of them the clingy-ness has gone through the roof in the last 3 weeks! The cats won't leave my side when I am home. The male cat is not normally affectionate at all but right around 16 weeks with my first pregnancy he figured out something was up and it was about the same time this go round, too.

  • Yes!!! We have 2 boxers, one male and one female. Our male has been so off lately. He is almost 3 and he has been very needy and clingy. He also has been becoming very food and water aggressive. He will growl at anybody who comes near his bowl when he eating. It is super weird. I may bring him to the vet if it continues because it is very unlike him. When I was pregnant with our son he wasn't like this. Our female was actually very possessive and when we would go for rides or run errands with them she would growl at people in the cars next to us!

  • Yes! My male dog has been wanting to cuddle and lay on my bump. It's very cute.. I think he's nesting. Haha My female dog has been peeing or pooing in our room while we sleep. Not sure if it's me being pregnant or other factors. The vet says it's not a UTI. I don't know what else to do with her! I guess we should train her to ring a bell if she needs to go. But she usually is able to hold it until our male dog scratches the door when he tells us he needs to go potty. She never has had accidents like this before. Is she being territorial? This has been going on for almost 2 months now. Sigh...

  • Last time my dog was fine until about 36 weeks. Then he decided to let us know he didn't want the baby by peeing on the nursery door every Sunday evening for 3 consecutive weeks. Then everything stopped and he went back to normal. So far he hasn't changed this time around but I think he is just older and lazier so we probably won't see any big change.
  • My dog has always been my shadow ... So for her it's hard to tell if she is more cuddly.

The cat has been unusually affectionate. He even licks me .... He never does that!

  • Both our dog and cat have been acting weird for awhile now (My husband and I both think the animals knew before we did).  They are extra protective and are at my side all the time.

  • Yes. We have two dogs, and they have both been acting differently. One is very attention starved [more than usual] and the other is very quiet and kind of mopes around. We are in the middle of construction and with all the change, it could be a lot for them to handle.

  • We have 2 dogs, and they have both been acting differently since I found out I was pregnant. One seems to follow me everywhere, and will even lay on top of my feet when I'm sitting on the couch. The other one will sit down in front of me constantly, wag her tail, and paw at me to keep petting her.
  • My cats are smothering me lol

  • Yes! My shih-tzu japanese chin mix has been attached to me whenever I am home. If I stay in bed longer than my husband he stays with me on the bed until I get up. And he will either lie on top of my stomach when I am sitting on the couch, or on the top of the couch at my head. He was like this when I was pregnant with my DD too.
