After my baking class Sunday, I came to the conclusion that my life revolves way too much around Em. I've become the dreaded reclusive mommy-martyr. So I'm trying to figure out some new things to do. I also want to do some more activities with Em outside the house and socialize her with other babies.
I remember a discussion a while back about classes with music for babies, but can't remember what they are called. Does anyone know? I think maybe MM used to be involved in them.
Any other suggestions for getting us out and about would be welcome, she just really seems to love music. I'm actually a very shy person so this whole idea is kind of terrifying...I think small group activities would be best.
TIA!!!!
Re: Reversing martyrdom
We do Gymboree and I really like it. Its a little expensive though.
I know some of the moms here to Musikgarten, but the ones in my area didnt take babies. Also Mops is really popular.
Also try the Library. I'm going there next. They have baby swim and story time.

So far I have done meet ups at coffee shops and us moms talk while the babies hang out, baby friendly movie theater outings, and story times with kindermusik. I've gotten to know some of the moms really well and now we do a lot of play dates at each others homes. It's so nice since none of my friends have babies yet.
There's tons of other meet up activities too.
We go to Musikgarten but you can also try Kindermusik. The Little Gym and Gymboree are other options. For getting out of the house, I'm also in a Moms Group (MOPS). I really like it but it does have dues so some posters dislike that aspect of it.
The music class would be a great option for you because there is an activity to focus on rather than having to put yourself out there (like at MOPS).
I just signed up for this yesterday! I'm looking forward to exactly what you described. Great!
OP...I know what you mean, I go to work and I come home and that's it. I'm looking for ways to become a person again!
Sweet! I hear the moms in the Farmington Hills, Northville, Bloomfield areas are a bit uppity but I just heard that from other moms and haven't experienced anything negative first hand.
Babies of 2012 is a good group from what I've seen and it's pretty active.
Are you from Michigan too?? If so, awesome! Babies of 2012 is meetup group on meetup.com and many of the events are hosted in those cities but the group itself is not tied to any one city. HTH!
I didn't know there were so many of us! Meetups are really relaxed and I just participate when I'm able to with my work schedule. Once you join a group (like Babies of 2012) you RSVP to the events you want to go to. There's no dues or long-term commitment. I hope to see you ladies at some point!
Very Cool! July 2012 Babies is what I signed up for!
With so many of us in SE Michigan, it looks like we could even make our own
