When did you finish your nursery?

Right now, what will be our nursery is a guest room. We moved in in June and the room was a teenage girls, and she put push pins in EVERY wall surface. I am starting to stress over when to start the room, I am 90 days from my due date. We have to clean out the room and closet, spackle, paint, steam clean the carpets, assemble the furniture and decorate. I know the first few months the baby will be in our room, but I still want the nursery "done".

What was your time frame like, and do you use your nursery?

Re: When did you finish your nursery?

  • We finished painting the nursery this weekend and installed the closet organizer.  So at this point, I'm waiting on the crib to arrive and then we will just have minor details to finish. HTH!
  • Dbert, don't feel bad we haven't even begun on our nursery yet!!!  I know I'm a few weeks behind you, but still.  Everything that's on your list is on mine too, except assemble the furniture!!!  We're lucky in that department, we're getting the crib and hutch/changing table combo from my bro/SIL.

I have no idea how I want to decorate it either.... however, I'm trying to work on that + the registry this week/month!!!  I sort of feel like I'm "behind" in the game ... but this pregnancy has been sort of stressful for me thus far, and I really had no desire up until now to start figuring everything out.  I am very laid back about this kind of thing (not really Type A :)  so I'm trying not to sweat it!

  • I'd stop stressing out over when to start and just get started then.  We started early (I was maybe 19 weeks?) because I wanted to do the work during the second tri when I had more energy.  Now the room is painted, blinds are up, crib is set up and dresser is partially full.  I've been calmer ever since.
  • Honestly, our nursery wasn't finished until 3 days before Nate was born.  We were finishing our bonus room at the time, and we had put a lot of stuff in the nursery while we finished the bonus room.  It was insane.  I definitely don't recommend waiting that long!  ;)  However, since Nate was in our room, it really didn't matter that much in the long run.
  • We have done nothing, zip, nada on our nursery.  Well, we did clean out some of the junk so my brother could sleep there over Thanksgiving, but otherwise it's still our 'junk room.'  We haven't even starting shopping for anything yet!

My goal is to do most of our nursery shopping the week after Christmas when both DH and I will be off.  Now that we know the sex it's a lot easier for me to focus. ALthough I'm starting to feel a little bit behind...

  • I just finished it - like a week ago!

  • It was mostly done by 32 weeks, but that was basically because my shower was at my house, and I wanted to be able to show it off. :-) After the shower, I had a ton more to do--put gifts away, wash everything, etc. Now, I'm pretty much ready. I still need to wash the crib bedding, but I figure she won't be in there for at least a few weeks, so it might wait. :-)

  • I had the big stuff done--painting and furniture all put together by my first shower, which I think was around 32 weeks.  Then I just had smaller stuff like hanging up pictures and putting everything away the last couple of months.

Yeah, I definitely would want it ready before the baby comes.  You are not going to feel like working on it after she arrives.  Maybe try to get a lot of it done over Christmas!

  • Anne and Jules, I feel so much better! I was starting to freak out a little bit that we haven't done much on our nursery except clean out the closet in that room. We've picked out paint colors and pretty much know what furniture we want, but we haven't purchased anything yet or started painting.

I'm hoping to get the furniture ordered and the walls at least primed this month or right after Christmas.

  • I'm not finished yet.  But we have painted and put together the crib.  I want to be done early.  I ordered our dresser, it should be here next week.  Next is installing the new ceiling fan, fixing the closet door.  We are also planning to buy the changing table when they get it in stock.

We started emptying the room about 2 months ago.  It took forever!!

  • Um - it's painted, but it'll be a guest room complete with 2 double beds until after the holidays since we'll be having houseguests.  We do have our crib / changing table but it's still in the box waiting to be put together.  I'm not too worried though - it'll all get done when it gets done.

  • We finished ours around 32 weeks or so. We worked 2 weekends in a row &got it done. And although we didn't use it right away (she was in our room), there's no way we would've been able to work on it after she was here.

  • I just ordered the bedding yesterday.  We think we know what crib/dresser we want, but it looks like we have to order in the store.  It's a bit of a drive so I'm not sure when we're going to do that.  DH wants to paint soon, but I want to wait to make sure we like the bedding and that it fits the crib.  It'll come together.  I'm trying not to stress about it.

  • We started working on it pretty early, around 12 weeks.  So we've just been working on it little by little.  Its been pretty much finished for a month or 2.  We still just have last minute things to add.  He'll be in our room for the first month or 2, then move into the nursery.

  • The big stuff like cleaning, painting, and furniture was finished around 22-23 weeks, but I'm kind of impatient like that. We still have a few things to do, like put up the rest of the decorations, but I'm not in the biggest hurry for that. Plus, people are giving us some of the decorations and I want everything in sight before I decide where to put what. But, the basics are done and it is fully functional, so that's all I really care about.
