Good Morning America just had a segment on how ultrasound parties are the new rage. So at your baby shower you have an ultrasound in front of all your guests. What do you guys think about this!? It is $500 for the person to come to your house.
Off BCP since 1/12 TTC since 3/12 High LH/FSH Ratio 8/12 DX with PCOS 11/12 Clomid 50mg - 19.5mm Follie - Trigger + TI = BFP! 11/12 EDD August 11, 2013
I think it is totally ridiculous, but to each their own!

Any sort of shower is already torture to be at, I dont need to see someone or whip my own big old belly out for everyone. I would much rather have it be private.

Plain and simple, it is dumb!! If you want to show of the sonogram picture that is fine but to me that is something to share with your SO not a room full of people.
I think in lieu of this- if you wanted to share the ultrasound with your parents or other close relatives there are places that do that type of thing for WAY cheaper (like $75 here in Florida).
I had a friend who brought in her mother, mother in law and sister and she said it was a great experience. The image is projected onto a large screen and the family sits on a nice couch while the mom has the ultrasound done.
Yeah, nobody needs to see my ute while trying to enjoy cake and punch. nbsp;
Oh come on, EJ! What if it was red velvet cake? :P
And as for me, not no, but hell no. It's ridiculous and why would you spend 500.00 to show people the baby? They will just meet the kid in a few months, anyway. Seems like a waste.
In our circle we have baby showers after the baby's born, not before, so u/s wouldn't even be an option - thankfully so, what a weird thing to want to do!
Married August 2012. Me: 41 DH: 42

There isn't enough medical evidence out there to show ultrasounds pose zero risk to the baby. Until they prove that, I'm happy to limit my exposure and wonder why others want the risk.
ETA: I read an article about this new rage last week and it said some techs keep the ultrasound going for 30-45 MINUTES! Ultrasounds create HEAT people! Ugh
The FDA does not approve non-medical ultrasounds, including the places at the mall or parties. They're intended for diagnostic purposes only, not entertainment.

I agree that it seems very self-indulgent and attention whoreish. Ultrasounds are such an intimate thing. The other thing is, as much as we love seeing our own babies, to others it's just a weird blob. I remember years ago when TTC wasn't even on my mind yet a lady I worked with was AWing at work her 3D u/s pics. All I could think of was how weird the baby looked and I really wasn't that interested! I might show a pic if people ask, but a whole party seems ridiculous. Especially at $500.
BFP #1: 12/26/11, EDD 09/05/12; m/c discovered: 02/22/12 @ 12w u/s, D&C: 03/08/12 Waited for AF for 146 long days! Hysteroscopy/D&C on July 10th to fix blocked cervix (DX: Cervical Stenosis) BFP #2 12/8/12, EDD 08/21/13 Our rainbow arrived 08/24/13!
Besides the fact that I think they are beyond ridiculous and attention whoring... what happens if the U/S tech notices something wrong with the baby? Worst case... what if there is no heartbeat? I don't think I would want a bazillion people around me if I had to find out that kind of news.

Its kinda annoying, IMO.
There is a party for everything now.
There is no way I would do this, or attend one.
