February 2013 Moms

Starting to Freak Out :)

I'll confess, I'm a lurker.  This is my first time posting but I've been learning from everyone else's questions and issues for months. :)

I'm due Feb 20th & we just started going to baby school at the hospital last night where they showed us a lot of videos of live births. I'm starting to get really nervous about my LO coming out.  To add to it, I'd planned on having an epidural only to find out this week that I might not be able to because of some back surgery that I had in 1995.  I'm on a wild goose chase to track down the old x-rays for the anesthesiologist so they can determine the best course.  I'm living across the country now & it's not as easy as it should be. Finally, if that wasn't enough, I had an ultrasound today and the tech told me that he's measuring a little over 6 pounds! I know those measurements are notoriously inaccurate but it didn't help my anxiety.  Giant baby with no meds isn't really what I was planning on.

I'm going to need to practice my relaxation techniques extra hard the next few weeks in order to keep myself off the ledge. :)

Re: Starting to Freak Out :)

  • Same due date here too!  My hospital classes start tonight.  I haven't started freaking out yet, but having never seen a live birth, if they show the videos, it might jumpstart some panic in me as well!!

ETA:  Don't worry about the size they gave you... Ultrasounds this late can be off by as much as a pound or two.

  • Same due date! We had our first class last night and I am so excited but starting to get nervous at the same time!
  • Due February 17th and DH and I have been watching a birth class on the iPad the past few nights (it's by BabyCenter and is a free app I'm pretty sure - not available for iPhone just iPad - highly recommend it!) and today I have started to get really anxious! People have asked me lately if I'm nervous about delivery (which I hope to do naturally) and I've said no but my answer has officially changed. Agh!

  • Just remember how many babies are born every single day, and in places around the world where meds aren't available.  Even if you can't have an epidural, just remind yourself that birth is something your body is meant to do.  Even if it's a nightmare labor, you will get through it, and you will look back on it as one of the most exciting experiences of your life.
