**Sorry in advance for the long post, but I want to be as detailed as possible*
I've read about as much as I can regarding sleep issues, but just can't seem to figure out what DS's deal is. He will be 8 months old on the 17th and up till about a month ago he was a great sleeper, waking maybe once or twice during the night to feed. Well things hit the fan in the beginning of December and now he can be up anywhere from 3-10 times/night! When it first started I thought it was b/c I had introduced meats to his diet and it seemed to constipate him, so I stopped the meat. Right around that time he also started crawling, so I figured it was that. Then, of course, the holidays didn't help. On top of that he just cut his first two teeth and is now learning to pull himself up. I know there is a lot going on in his little world but my husband and I are dying!
As for our schedule, we really don't have a solid one during the day. He typically takes 2 naps a day, of about an hour each, and usually in his crib, but otherwise in the car or stroller if we have errands to run. He gets dinner around 5, bath, and bedtime bottle (I BF but DH does bedtime bottle to give me some alone time) around 7, then off to bed as soon as he's finished, sometime around 7:30. This is the same schedule we have had for months! He is fantastic at putting himself to sleep for both naps and bedime. I put him in the crib drowsy and usually within 10 minutes he is out. Then the fun starts..he'll be up around 10:30, 11:30, 1, 3:30 then sleeps till 8am. Most nights I'll wait a few minutes before going back in his room, but as soon as I do and I put the pacifier back in his mouth he's out. I do feed at 1 and 3:30 just to get him back to sleep if nothing else works. Now, on some nights he'll wake at these times, pacifier goes in, I get back in bed and 15 minutes later he's at it again. And this goes on till 3:30. He has a white noise machine, I keep the lights dim, don't talk, and don't get him out of bed unless absolutely necessary. My husband and I take turns and that doesn't help DS either. Im not against CIO, but even after 15 minutes he's still just as angry as when he woke up. I tried infant Tylenol the past few nights and that just made things even worse! I'm beginning to suspect the pacifier is the issue now..
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. I feel like I have tried everything and nothing helps!
Re: Please, please, please help us! We need sleep!
Could he possibly be teething or is sick?
My DS wakes 2xs a night still to eat, but falls right back asleep. There was a week in December where he was up every hour. We thought it was teething and he ended up having an ear infection. One full day on the medicine and he was back to sleeping his normal.
I will start this response with I have NO idea if this is remotely related or will solve your issue. DD was doing this exact thing and we solved it over night.
She was suddenly waking up 6-8 times a night, I was desperate for help. DH and I were at our wits end when a friend of mine who has a son who was always a terrible sleeper from birth said that he did the same thing until they let him sleep on his stomach and then he STTN. I didn't believe her but after 2 more nights of it I figured, fluck it, let's try SOMETHING. I kid you not, DD fell asleep almost instantly (no joke, it looked like she passed out) and has STTN or woken up once wet every night since (it's been 5 or 6 nights now).
No idea why it worked, but it did. I'm glad she's older because I would have been scared to do it when she was younger but I'm not turning back cause I get to sleep!! Like I said no idea if it's related but I saw no connection between her sudden spurt of bad sleep an wanting to sleep on her stomach but there you go. Worked for me. Unless your son is already a tummy sleeper in which case sorry I have no advice.
I did make an appt to see the ped tomorrow just to rule out an ear infection.
This is the same for us. Our LO was so happy during the day. We didn't notice any other symptoms (only that he was waking every 1-2 hours and wasns't wanting to nurse during the night so I knew he wasn't waking in hunger), but my mommy gut said to take him in and have his ears checked. When we got in, the DR said, you're baby is so happy, I'm betting his ears are fine. She looked and it was an ear infection and I about started crying when the dr said 'yep, his ears are REALLY infected'. I felt horrible it was going on for over a week. Dr said sometimes there are no other symptoms.
I asked DC if they noticed any symptoms and they said no and were so suprised he had an ear infection since he was smiley and happy all day.
This is me know too! Wyatt slept through the night since day 1, but ever since teething and cutting his first two teeth he's up at least 2 times. He usually ends the night in bed with us
