Does anyone have any hospital/birthing center recommendations in the Woodbridge area? Willing to travel up to 45 mins in any direction, but hoping someone can provide either positive or negative feedback regarding the local hospitals and birthing centers. Our current plan is to deliver at Potomac Hospital but we haven't even scheduled our tour yet so I want to make sure that we learn as much as we can about all of our options!
I really liked the idea of using a birthing center, and have received many recommendations for BirthCare in Old Town Alexandria, BUT I really don't like the idea of the center not being attached to a hospital in case something goes wrong.
Please help!
Re: Hospital/Birthing Center Recommendations near Woodbridge, VA?
I have been with Birth Care since the beginning of my pregnancy and absolutely love them! They are very close to Innova Alexandria in case of emergency and have all the same equipment to administer immediate emergency care to mom and baby if necessary until EMTs arrive in case of a transfer. They have a great tour and information session each month that I would highly recommend that might ease your mind.
I have also heard good things about a birth center in Bethesda, MD that I think is attached to a hospital but I'm really not sure.
Good luck!
I've also heard great things about Birth Care and that's actually where I took my Bradley Classes. (I wanted a hospital setting the first time but am considering birthing there next time!)

The birth centers in NoVa & DC are all free standing so if you want one hooked up to a hospital, I'm sorry you'll be disappointed. Perhaps you would consider midwife practices that deliver in-hospital instead?
The local birth centers are basically BirthCare in Alexandria (CNMs), NoVA (CPMs), and the one in DC but that's pretty far. I was a BirthCare patient and didn't have the greatest experience but I think that's largely because I was in labor for all of Christmas day and no one really wanted to be there. So if you're not due on a major holiday, you'll probably get the more attentive side of the BirthCare team. Note that BirthCare requires patients to hire a birth assistant - similar cost to the higher end of a doula. I toured NoVA and it's beautiful. They offer monitrice services(you labor with them in their birthing suite until you're far along and then transfer to a hospital) if that would make you more comfortable. The DC Birth Center is staffed with CNMs who have rights to practice in hospital, but it's not next to one so it still involves a trip if something were to happen.
For midwife practices that deliver in hospital, there are practices associated with the Birthing Inn (Loudan midwives I think), Georgetown, Alexandria (Physicians & Midwives), and I have heard of a midwife delivery at Arlington though I don't know her name.
