I had posted earlier that we were supposed to go on vacation but it was delayed due to SO's aunt passing away. Our plan was to do the 8 to 9 hour drive on Saturday, stopping to see SO's cousin and his best friends parents in Boise ID....then on Sunday do the drive to McCall, ID to the ski resort. Stay at the resort from Sunday to Sunday, then head home.
Then SO's aunt passed away unexpectedly. We decided to make the 2ish hour drive to the each on Saturday to see his family for the day, drive back home that night, and leave for ID Sunday or Monday. Sunday I stalled so I could watch the Seahawks and we left that evening. Due to weather, it took us 9 hours, driving through the night and we arrived at 5am. We were blessed on our last road trip which was 3,000 miles because Gator was amazing the whole time. This time, she frucking screamed and threw fits the whole time. We got to the resort and she refused to sleep, flipping out over two hours and finally passing out at almost 8am.
When we woke, there were tons of phone calls and text from IL's, saying our dog couldn't walk on her back legs. SO spent all day in the room miserable, making phone calls to his parents and the vet, waiting for test results, and I think he was crying. We are here with my side of the family. I finally convinced him to take Gator to the pool with me for a little bit, and while there....I told him I am ending the vacation and we are going home in the morning. I packed everything while he relaxed....and then he bit into something and broke a molar.
Blood tests on the dog came back normal. The vet is a client of SO's so he called his friend who is a pet neurologist and she opened a spot for the dog in the morning and thankfully, is going to do a scan for free as a favor to our vet. They are thinking she has a brain tumor, and if that is the case we will have to put her down. My FIL didn want her sleeping at the vet so he picked her up and is camped out on the floor with her for the night...meanwhile IL's house is packed with family for his aunts memorial.
It's been a stressful trip to say the least. I just want to get home and snuggle with the dog. We spoil her rotten. SO got her as a puppy 13 years ago, and she has been part of my life for 7 of those years. I love that dog....and so does Gator. Before we left the other day, the dog was acting fine and Gator and here were loving all over each other. So sad!
Re: Vacation bust...long
Oh man! I am so sorry about your vacation...but even more sorry for your puppy
Keep us posted.
ETA: I'm actually sorry about everything you are going through!! I didn't mean to sound insensitive about your SO's aunt
