When does 2nd tri start??

Silly question, but when does the 2nd tri start?

I always thought it was 12 weeks, but I've read different websites, some saying it starts at 13 weeks and others saying 14 weeks. Which one is accurate?

If you divide 40 by 3 you get 13.333333333333333 so I'd say at 13 weeks you can safely say you are in the 2nd tri.

Opinions vary, some divide 40/3, which makes it 13something, others by gestational stages, which makes it 12, others have different methods.

Me, I'm out of here at 12 weeks.

I signed up for freebies and coupons from Similac and just got a pamphlet yesterday...it breaks down the trimesters...

Trimester 1 is 1-12 weeks

Trimester 2 is 13-28 weeks

Trimester 3 is 29-40 weeks

So, this is my last week of my first tri! Surprise

It depends on what you go by. Here is a breakdown I found online.

The three basic ways to calculate trimesters There are basically three ways of dividing up a pregnancy into the three trimesters; they are by:
Development, Gestation, Conception. They give different dates for when the second trimester begins and for when the third trimester begins. Your health care provider might prefer to use theDevelopment method, while another Midwife or Doctor may use the Gestation method.
I am sure they do that just to confuse pregnant women.

by Development:This uses actual developmental stages to divide up a pregnancy. From LMP to 12 weeks the embryo develops all the major organs and becomes a fetus. From 12 weeks to 27 weeks the fetus continues developing and reaches viability. From 27 weeks on the fetus finishes development and prepares for delivery. Here the second trimester begins at 12w 0d and the third at 27w 0d.by Gestation:With this method you take the 40 weeks of gestation and divide into three equal stages. Here the second trimester begins at 13w 3d and the third at 26w 6d.by Conception:This method is where you take the 38 weeks of post conception development, divide by three, into the three equal trimesters. Here the second trimester begins at 14w 5d and the third at 27w 3d.

I've heard 12, 13, 13w 3d and 14 w. Honestly ... I really don't think it matters.

Mentally I've always considered myself in the second tri at 14 weeks... but does it really matter? For me the exhaustion and nausea didn't subside until 16 or 17 weeks... and those were the main reasons I was excited for the 2nd tri anyway.

There are different ways to measure it, so all are correct.

I will offically say I'm out of the first tri and breathe a sigh of relief at 14 weeks.

Your First Trimester:
1st Month = Weeks 1,2,3,4
2nd Month = Weeks 5,6,7,8
3rd Month = Weeks 9,10,11,12,13

Your Second Trimester:
4th Month = Wks 14,15,16,17
5th Month = Wks 18,19,20,21
6th Month = Wks 22,23,24,25,26

Your Third Trimester:
7th Month = Wks 27,28,29,30
8th Month = Wks 31,32,33,34,35
9th Month = Wks 36,37,38,39,40

I always assumed week 13 since they are normally 4 weeks in a month so once you hit 13, you are beginning your 4 month and trimesters are in sets of 3 months.
