I don't remember who did swim lessons (Smit?) but we are starting tomorrow. How did you handle the logistics? Did you rent a locker? Did you bring in your purse, or just your keys? Did you change your LO in the locker room before lessons, or in the car? I'm assuming that I can't have him decked out in his swim diaper driving to the appointment.
Yay! I'm excited!
Re: Swim lessons logistics
Our pool has open lockers for anyone to use. I didn't want to lock it, so I didn't bring in any of my valuables wallet, phone with me. Just keys. I changed DS in the change room, but I had my bathing suit on under my clothes when we left home. It was much easier to get him undressed and then into his swim gear, and then just quickly strip my clothes off and be ready to go.
As for after lessons, I found DS loved to sit on the floor of the shower where the water would just hit his body. I brought a new bath toy and had him sit and play while I quickly rinsed and got clean, and then I would rinse him. Getting both of us dry and dressed was a little challenging, but I found if I let him play with the swim bag he would busy himself taking out the brushes and misc. things in the bag while I got dry and dressed and then I could focus solely on drying and dressing him. I tried dressing him first once, but wrestling with a baby while I was wet didn't exactly help keep him dry.
Good luck and I hope you have fun! DS loved it so much that we're going to put him in lessons again in the spring.
When we did swim lessons I just packed up a "swim bag" and left it in the bleachers during lessons.
We got there a bit early and changed in the locker room - since swim diapers aren't water tight and I didn't want to have to wash the carseat in case of an accident. And changed back into regular clothes after class.
Thanks guys! I really appreciate the feedback. Mama, I might try your trick, since now all he wants to do when I put him down is run. I can see myself running after him while I'm half dressed. Although it would provide plenty of laughs, I'm sure that I wouldn't find it that funny :-)
I'll be sure to let you all know how it goes.
I did do baby swim and it was a ton of fun. You are right... do not put him in his swim diaper then drive to the appointment! They only hold solids so if he pees it will go everywhere.
At the University pool they had lockers available so I just brought a lock and my keys with us and left my purse in the trunk of the car. I would get changed quickly in the locker room then change DS. When we were done with lessons we would get in the showers and hose off together then I would wrap him in a towel while I changed quickly then I would get him changed. Part of the reason I did it in that order was so I would have an extra towel for him if I needed it. If you are going from the house then maybe you could have your suit on under your clothes just so there is one less person to get ready when you get there.
It was so much fun and I hope you both have a fabulous time and enjoy it as much as we did! You will have to tell us about it when you return.
