Re: Toddler mom check-in

  • Only a couple of months left for us in this check-in! *sob*

What is your toddler really into right now/their new accomplishment? Peeing in the potty - going great.

What challenges are you currently facing? Other toddler moms - this is the part where we can chime in and help one another with ideas/suggestions for working through challenges (behavior issues, etc.) Pooping in the potty - not going so well.

I think we waited a bit too long for potty-training DD, but with 3rd trimester puking / move to new house / new daycare / new baby it just never seemed to be the right time. She's doing really well with peeing and just goes on her own to her potty, but she has yet to tell us or head to the potty when she has to poop. I can usually tell by the sudden quiet and look of concentration, but we don't always make it to the potty in time. It's only been a week so I'm trying to be patient, but I'm concerned about daycare since they weren't pleased with her poop accident last week. They need to be patient about this too, right? She was only 4 days into PT at the time.

Did your toddler do/say anything particularly funny recently? She has a little song that she chants, but I have no idea where it came from or what it means. She usually says it while bouncing on some piece of furniture. "Oh ah fee ah go! Oh no oh no oh no!" followed by lots of giggles. She's fairly articulate other than this, so apparently it means something to her but I have no idea what.

QOTW: How did the holidays go with your toddler? Anything funny/special to share that would brighten our days? DD loved Christmas and we did our best to talk about giving as well as getting presents. She is so happy and proud that DS loves the giraffe teether she gave him.

What is your toddler really into right now/their new accomplishment?

DD is really working on her language right now, with lots of new words all the time which is so wonderful to hear.  She has started trying to count to 13 (that's how many stairs in the flight, which we count each time we go down them).  And she's learning a couple letters in the alphabet.  But I think my favorite new accomplishment is she sang this week for the first time!

What challenges are you currently facing? Other toddler moms - this is the part where we can chime in and help one another with ideas/suggestions for working through challenges (behavior issues, etc.)  Trying to balance getting things done around the house and giving DD plenty of attention/learning time/play time, etc. has been hard for me since we just moved 6 months ago, just had the holidays etc.  "Life" has been unbelievably busy in our family.  Some days I spend plenty of quality time with her, but other days it feels like I'm just dragging her around while I get errands done, and I feel really guilty...

Did your toddler do/say anything particularly funny recently?  I love when she says "Whoa Dada!" and "W-X" (her favorite letters of the alphabet).

QOTW: How did the holidays go with your toddler? Anything funny/special to share that would brighten our days?'

The holidays were fun!  She was a champ despite a couple late nights, early mornings, long days...  I think just seeing her with her grandparents and her daddy warmed my heart....She met Santa on Christmas Eve at my husband's aunt's house and he gave her a gift.  She was so proud of the gift she just carried it around showing it to people, without any interest really in opening it to see what it was!

  • What is your toddler really into right now/their new accomplishment?

She loves identifying things wherever we are. She says ball, duck, star and bear all the time when she sees one.

What challenges are you currently facing?

Getting her to eat and take good naps.

Did your toddler do/say anything particularly funny recently?

She's getting crazy with her dance moves. It always cracks us up.

QOTW: How did the holidays go with your toddler? Anything funny/special to share that would brighten our days?

She did good! She loved opening up gifts this year.

  • What is your toddler really into right now/their new accomplishment?

She's talking all.the.time. She narrates our days.

What challenges are you currently facing? Other toddler moms - this is the part where we can chime in and help one another with ideas/suggestions for working through challenges (behavior issues, etc.)

We're back in a whiney phase again and I want to rip my ears off.

Did your toddler do/say anything particularly funny recently?

She's being really possessive of all her things right now and she was talking about how the clip on potty seat is hers. So I was trying to reassure her that we wouldn't use it because it only fit her little tush. She turns around and goes "Mommy big tushie!"  Thanks kiddo, like I need the reminder.

QOTW: How did the holidays go with your toddler? Anything funny/special to share that would brighten our days?

It was a whirlwind. Her bday is 3 days after Christmas, so it felt like a gift frenzy for a week +. (And not over yet, her bday party is Saturday.) However, she asked Santa for an Elmo and an owl. She happened to open the owl first, and her face just lit up and she yelled "Santa bring B owl!!"

This check-in is for moms with a toddler(s) age 12-36 months.

What is your toddler really into right now/their new accomplishment?

He has started to put toys BACK in the toy box!

What challenges are you currently facing? Other toddler moms - this is the part where we can chime in and help one another with ideas/suggestions for working through challenges (behavior issues, etc.)

I think his "eye" teeth are coming in.  He's been unusually needy and has fought naps and bedtime.  Advil has been our best friend.....

Did your toddler do/say anything particularly funny recently?

He says "Poof" for Poop.  When we ask if he pooped he will grab his crotch and say "Poof!"

QOTW: How did the holidays go with your toddler? Anything funny/special to share that would brighten our days?

He just had a ball ripping everything open.  He could have cared less what he got!  We let him rip open everyone's presents and we had to ask who it was for and who it was from since the tags were gone!

I read somewhere recently that integrating counting (and, later, addition etc) into your everyday life like this has a measurable impact on success with more complex mathematics later. Good job mama!

  • What is your toddler really into right now/their new accomplishment?

Figuring out physical stuff.  Like that he can climb on a box and then stand on said box to reach something on the table (cue mama heart attack) or hitting pegs with a mallet or running as fast as he can away from me every chance he gets.

What challenges are you currently facing?

His desire to be OUT of the cart in places like Target.  His snubbing of veggies.

Did your toddler do/say anything particularly funny recently?

He's not talking much yet, but he cracks me up daily.  Recently to snap him out of a bad mood I sniffed at his feet and then held my nose and said "PU".  Today he walked up to me, stuck his face to my feet and breathed a few times...then stood up and wrinkled his nose.

QOTW: How did the holidays go with your toddler? Anything funny/special to share that would brighten our days?

We were home so it was a really mellow time. He didn't get into the presents at all on Christmas and was well into his overnight slumber on NYE. He has enjoyed playing with said toys, just was 'meh' about opening them.

  • Hi toddler moms! It's been a few weeks. Time to get back in the swing after the holidays!
Hi :) This is my first time joining you guys in this check in. My son just turned 15 months.

This check-in is for moms with a toddler(s) age 12-36 months.

What is your toddler really into right now/their new accomplishment?

He recently picked up on the names of the animals from one of his toys so when I ask for them by name he'll bring them to me (he doesn't say the names himself yet). He walked backwards today and ate his lunch with a fork for the first  time.

What challenges are you currently facing? Other toddler moms - this is the part where we can chime in and help one another with ideas/suggestions for working through challenges (behavior issues, etc.)

He's sick right now so that's a challenge, when he's sick he's always a little more touchy and fussy.

Did your toddler do/say anything particularly funny recently?

This has been going on for a little while now, but he loves to lift up my shirt and blow raspberries on my belly lol, he won't do it on anyone but me. It's so cute and slobbery.

QOTW: How did the holidays go with your toddler? Anything funny/special to share that would brighten our days?

It was fun, he loved the paper and especially the bows. I'm glad we didn't go crazy and buy him too much since he still wasn't sure what everything was.
