freezing fruits....is a no no?

I read on the 36 board that you can't freeze anything you don't cook first...like avocado and banana...is this true? I've been making avocado and freezing what lo won't eat the first day or two and then taking the frozen batches out the night before to thaw in the fridge....is this okay?
I'm all paranoid now!

  • I don't think so. i freeze avacodo too and to make banana ice cream you are supposed to freeze it first.

  • I freeze everything, avocado, banana, black beans, etc. I don't cook banana or avocado I just puree those the way they are, but other things I do cook.  I have also refroze fruits that I buy frozen and then puree, that might not be the 'right' thing to do, but my kids are fine.

  • I freeze my bananas and avocados right after pureeing without cooking them first and they seem fine so I would guess that it's ok.
  • Banana's and avocado will brown a bit - but totally fine to freeze (I also don't cook them first, but I don't see why it would hurt them if you did?).

  • Phew! thanks for the peace of mind everyone!
I wasn't saying to cook the banana lol i was simply asking if you can freeze uncooked pureed fruits like banana and avocado, because someone said you couldn't!
I don't cook avocado or banana, i just puree it and then freeze.
    Anyway, thanks!

I pulled out the book to check...it doesn't explain why.

  • Um. I buy frozen fruit in bags for my smoothies? Whoever said this must be misinformed.
  • This is from wholesomebabyfood.com... (I just googled it! lol) I've been feeding little man frozen bananas since day 3 of food...I wait until they are really ripe and then slice them and freeze them in baggies. It freaked me out too when I saw the posts above, but most of the info on google from various websites says it's perfectly fine...  You cannot Freeze Avocado or BananaMyth: You can't freeze Bananas and/or AvocadosTruth: We are unsure where this myth originated however we suspect it may be perpetuated by parents who have had their banana and/or avocado turn brown when frozen. There is no health/nutritional reason for not freezing bananas and/or avocados.True, they may turn brown however this browning is natural and unless you began with brown and rotting fruit, the browning is not indicative of rot. Browning is the natural process that occurs as many fruits oxidize and ripen.
