DD1 is doing great with potty training as far as pee goes but has major anxiety about poop. When we started training (Dec 27th) things went great and she even went poop in the potty a few times but ever since then it has gone down hill. She can go a whole day with no accidents except that she will poop in her pull up during nap and/or at night. She is in underwear all day, only wears a pullup at nap and night times.
We tell her it is ok that she pooped in her pullup because otherwise she gets SUPER upset. But I feel that we are setting her back. We are trying our best not to stress her out as she seems to have anxiety about pooping on the potty.
Looking for suggestions, tips, stories, etc. We just don't know if we just wait it out a bit and be happy with her being potty trained as far as pee goes.
Re: PT: Anxiety about pooping?
We literally just went through the same thing with DD1. She would hold her poop for days and then explode in her nighty diaper. We finally sat her on the toilet in her bathroom (not a training toilet, the real deal). We explained that her belly is full of poopy and it has to come out her tushy, and she needs to let it come out or try and push it. We were there for about 30 minutes before she finally let out a huge fart, and pooped. She thought it was the funniest thing that she tooted so much, and now, every evening before her bath, we spend a while on her toilet, going poopy. And I mean she would be hysterically crying, trying to get a diaper so that she could poop in it, and now its like the coolest thing to her. Something will click in your LO's head and she will decide to poop in the toilet. For now, just ride it out. DD1 is still in a nighty diaper, but we are taking it one step at a time. Its only been two weeks, so we are fine with what she has accomplished thus far. We give her four mini-M&Ms when she poops, but she has been peeing in the potty for so long, we don't really reward that anymore. Half the time, she forgets anyway.
ipod cartoons while sitting on the toilet :-) they get her distracted enough to relax the muscles and let it come out.
