Natural Birth

Anyone have issues transferring providers from home birth to hospital?

Hello! I'm not in the best mood right now. We had initially planned a home birth for this LO with the same provider that we went through with my daughter. After having to pay of out pocket for a new car for my husband a week before Christmas we realized that we could no longer afford a home birth and would need to transfer care to a hospital practice where it would be covered 100%.

After waiting for my old provider to send records (which she took her time with) and then having to reschedule my appointment with the new provider they finally got my records and called me today after hours and left a message saying that it looks like I won't be a good fit for them because of my records. I am so frustrated! I had to wait like a month for this appointment and will now have to wait for who knows how long to hopefully get in somewhere else.

Did anyone else have problems switching from a home birth provider to a hospital birth? Now I'm afraid that I won't be able to find anyone to deliver this baby.

  • I don't have any advice, but I'm so sorry! That's so frustrating to be told you're not a "good fit" for them. That's a load of bs :(

  • WTF does that even mean? Would you be a better fit if you had no prenatal care to that point?

  • i wonder if they are concerned that you may be seeking parallel care?

could your previous provider send a letter stating that you are not receiving parallel care?

  • Whew, all is well now. I called today and was finally able to talk to the midwife who left the message in the first place. I guess that they had not been communicating well and she was under the impression that I was still intending to have a home birth while seeking their care. She also was concerned about my lapse in care (19-27 weeks) but that's only because neither my old or new providers would get their crap together and communicate about chart transfers. Not my fault lady. Basically she just looked at my mess of a chart and without talking to me decided to leave a message saying that I probably wasn't a good fit. Once I clarified she still sounded apprehensive but said that I can transfer to their care. Huge stress reliever since this is who my previous midwife suggested and aside from this annoying experience I do think they would be a good fit for me and the birth I would like to have.
