I had my 1 hour test Friday, and I apparently failed so badly that I don't even get the chance to take the three hour version. They said I had a 203. I am still in a bit of disbelief on this- no signs of it, did not have it with my first child, have gained less weight than with my first, and actually have been eating pretty healthy.
Trying to take the positives though- I will be able to tell sooner if there are any blood sugar problems, as they will have me monitoring my levels multiple times a day; I will have a nutritionist to work with; and I will see the baby on U/S a few more times before he is born.
I fully blame the test failure on an afternoon test, on an already stressful day, and I had cut almost all carbs that day (per the nurse's guidance)... still feel like if I had just taken a normal morning test I would have been fine--- but I will be a compliant patient.
Re: When I fail a test, I FAIL a test
Let me clarify what I meant--- I had none of these risk factors.
According to the American Diabetes Association, you're considered at high risk for this condition (and should be screened early) if:
Some practitioners will also screen you early if you have other risk factors, such as:
I had 2 one-hour tests, and was tested early because I'm a chunk. Passed the first, failed the second. My doctor said that sometimes happens, and that's why she tests people with high risk factors twice.
I opted out of the 3-hour in favor of the blood tests throughout the day, fasting, after breakfast, lunch and dinner. This is my first week doing it, and my blood sugar is awesome. I really haven't been eating differently, so I'm not really sure what the deal is. Stupid glucose load.
Finger pricks suck, though. I feel like my best friend is a porcupine.
It's a girl!
