Re: Ultrasound Question...They saw girl and boy???

  • I think you should go with the later u/s which definitely shows a girl. All girls start out with nubs that eventually form the clitoris.

    For examples, see here:

I cant tell at all! I'm horrible with U/S pictures.

I tend to notice that the boy guesses are more accurate then girl guesses, but people on this board have had the opposite happen.

    You must be so frustrated!

Three women on the May 2013 board were told boy early and then found out later they were having girls. That's probably because girls start out with a nub -- so I would think that it would be easy to mistake a girl for a boy early on rather than vice versa.

  • Thanks!  It is so frustrating because they said boy at 12 and 15 weeks and so I have been starting to bond in my mind with this baby boy but at 17 they said well it still looks like it could be a boy but possibly a girl...lol.  We are so excited either way but I wish we just knew for sure so that I could start bonding mentally with a girl or boy...if that makes sense...

I'm sorry. They should have told you that 12 and 15 weeks is just too early to say for certain so that you didn't have to readjust later on. 17 weeks is still kind of early, but given that I don't even see a nub, it really looks like you are having a girl.

  • I should have posted this one with the arrow. Its so fuzzy on the print out though... When they started the ultrasounds we werent looking for this but just to check and make sure my hemmorage near the baby wasnt growing and thankfully it wasnt but it was just out in the open and we all said at the same time its a boy.  But it was really early on.  Thankfully at my last one my hemmorage was gone! :)

That shot looks really blurry to me, but on BabyCenter's forums (there is a specific forum for ultrasounds), there is a woman who is a sonographer and if you post a photo she can usually comfirm the sex for you (though, as I said, this shot is very blurry and she lets you know if the shot is not a good shot to detect the sex). Just a thought. She has been on that board posting for about 8 years or so.

That's all still really, really early..... I wouldn't trust anything before 20 weeks, necessarily. Even then, ultrasounds have the possibility of being wrong.

I don't understand the "bonding with baby mentally" thing. It's a baby regardless of whether it has a penis or a vagina.

How do you navigate to that board? I never use baby center's forums and I just tried looking and it's very confusing to me. Couldn't find a forum for ultrasounds...

  • I had an elective ultrasound a few weeks ago, and they told me boy. My OB was looking for cysts on my ovaries today, checked out the baby, and said she thinks girl. So, I understand your confusion! We don't care either way, it just throws me off that I got different answers.

  • They told me most likely boy at my 12 week appointment and just today we found out it's actually a girl!  Dr. said "it looks like indoor plumbing."
  • Sorry, it's not very clear. I'd wait until 20 weeks, that one is kinda early to tell.

This one is blurry but looks like a section of the cord between the legs to me.

  • I agree with the other posts.. the further along you are the more accurate the gender will be because boys and girls can look very similar early on. although they say.. there is no guarantee until the actual delivery. my sono tech won't even give you a guess of the gender until at least 18 to 20 weeks.
  • That is a girl. The "potty shot" pic isn't taken from straight up and is at a weird angle.
    Brady (7.15.10) and Nolan (5.11.13)
  • It's hard to tell on those ultrasound pictures.  I had an early US at 15 weeks with DS3 and he didn't have the traditional "turtle" that my other two boys had at 18 weeks.  He had what looked like two lines.  So I was unsure until my 20 week ultrasound when I saw the very clear "turtle" shot.  I didn't see three lines on your ultrasounds but did see two.  So I'm not sure if is like my son and next time you'll see the clear boy shot or not.  I think it could go either way at this point.
  • I was told my first was a boy all throughout the pregnancy, and come to find out she was a girl the whole time. Doctor was taken completely by surprise at the delivery (c-section) and so was I; I had already bought all boy clothes!

Wait a while, it should be more obvious soon. But just in case, pick out a few neutral outfits... You never know.

  • It is a lot easier to tell a boy from a girl on a early ultrasound then the other way around. I would go by you 20 week scan if you are unsure =-). I am going in at 16 weeks 4 days for my gender ultrasound, I was told at 12 weeks 4 days boy so we shall see if the techs early guess was correct =-).
