Diaper Pail Recommendations

I somehow completely missed the fact that I am going to need some sort of diaper pail/diaper disposal system.  (pregnancy brain much?)  We have a pretty small nursery and will likely take out the trash frequently, especially for messy diapers.  I am looking for something small and simple, and hopefully something that doesn't require expensive refill packs for bags.

What diaper pail do you use?  Do you love it?

Re: Diaper Pail Recommendations

  • We've had a diaper champ for all the kids and it works fine for babies and pee diapers with regular garbage sacks.  Toddler poo diapers went straight outside.  I don't think anything can keep that smell in.

  • We only use one disposable a day for overnight. We bought the tiniest step on trash can from target and take the trash out once a week. The rest are cloth diapers and go in a wet bag destined for the washer every other day.

  • We just use a flip top trash can from Ikea, not expensive and you can put what you want in there to hold the diapers.

We have the Diaper Genie and it has been fine.  it's especially great when they are little.  Like PP said though, toddler poo is foulness and nothing is going to keep that smell at bay....

  • Arm and Hammer Munchkin works well in my sister's small nursery. I bought one, but I have no baby yet, so I can't personally recommend it.

My sister says she needed one refill bag per day. It gets less full as baby goes less, but you still take it out at least every day because although baby goes less as time goes on, odor in the diapers increases. As long as it goes out every day, with the Munchkin there is definitely no odor.

I do think a plain flip-top garbage pail with sturdy trash bags would work well if you don't go the diaper pail route (or if you want a certain look in your nursery - like a stainless steel one or a particular color or size). What I would not skimp on is the bags; a bag rupture in the can (or on the floor) would be a Major Bummer.

  • I didn't use one with my first. I just bought the smelly bags that you can get and threw them in them in the garbage. This time hubby wanted a diaper genie.. we'll see how it goes.
