Hi, everyone! It's nice to see some new folks in our check-in, especially for the August 2013 group! My due date is three months from today and I can't believe how quickly the time has flown by. We actually managed to assemble our first piece of nursery furniture over the weekend...only three or four more to go. Tongue Tied My baby shower invitations are also being mailed out today, so it is a momentous day here at Casa Danuli. Looking forward to hearing about your momentous days in your check-in posts...here we go!

  • QOTW: If you could ask your unborn LO/LOs one question right now and have it answered truthfully and fully (even if it involves a future prediction of some kind), what would you ask him/her/them? Wow, this is an interesting one.  Although I'm not sure how this would work, but I'd be interested in finding out how baby reacts/feels is affected by things that I do in pregnancy.  I feel like anymore there is so much scrutiny in things and wonder how much of it really affects baby and how it affects them.  Also tempted to start talking to baby after getting update about how they can start hearing soon - so would wonder what baby thinks of my chatter!

Share your updates and vents:  Updates - we are team blue!  We had our level 2 u/s last week, which showed no markers for DS - decided to go ahead and do the amnio and are waiting for results on that.  Based on the u/s they changed our DS risk from 1:25, to 1:75, so keeping our fingers crossed (should get preliminary results today).  Had my usual 4 week appointment today and found out I need to get a pertussis vaccine (didn't realize they wanted me to get one during pregnancy even though I had one a year ago - I actually had whooping cough 2 years ago - it was awful!).  Feeling pretty good, and been able to keep my weight down.  Rested all weekend after the amnio, but mostly feeling back to normal now.

  • QOTW: I definitely wonder if we will always have a close relationship.  I will admit I'm a bit nervous about having a girl because I don't have the greatest relationship with my mom.  I am hoping for something quite different.  Also I want to know if she is going to be a good baby or make my life miserable in the beginning lol.

Updates:  I am doing pretty well physically.  I am having such a hard time deciding on how to decorate the nursery.  I can't even pick a crib.  Part of it is that dh doesn't like what I like.  I'm trying to compromise and thats hard for me especially in my hormonal state haha. I'm hoping for some progress in the next couple weeks.

I am a hormonal/emotional mess right now so even thinking about it for 2 seconds makes me want to cry and I don't have time for a breakdown right now:)

I'm pretty ready to be done with this pregnancy.  I can't wait to meet DD and I am pretty darn uncomfortable!  I start weekly appts. this week which is crazy and I have a pre registration appt. at the hospital next week.

  • Putting together furniture/the nursery definitely brings things home and makes them real doesn't it? In addition to being fun. :) I'm on the 3 month countdown too and can hardly believe it. Just decided yesterday that my shower will be March 2nd- hope that isn't cutting it too close!

What is the best way to relate to you and discipline you so as to keep you on the path to happiness and personal success in your life vs. driving you crazy and making you a rebellious mess. :)

  • QOTW:  I am so curious about LO but I don't know what I would ask.  I want to know if she will look like me or DH.  I am blone hair blue eyes and very pale.  DH is from Italy so he is olive with dark hair and brown eyes.  I want to know if she is going to be athletic or if she will be a nerd.  I want to know what she can hear in there and how she feels about it.

Updates: 53 days or less left to go.  My BP has been in the 160's/100's so I am worried that I will be hospitalized after tomorrow's appointment as threatened.  The nursery is almost done but I don't have all of the clothes that I need nor do I own a carseat and only have one diaper.  I need more time before I can spend my days in bed.

  • Country girl-- eat lots and lots of garlic! If it doesn't bring down your BP in 24 hours (it can take a few days), then maybe they won't want to get near enough to you to test you and give you a few more days to bring the BP down! (Seriously, though, I hope you get to avoid bedrest!)

    QOTW
: I would probably do some negotiating so that we can just be an awesome team-- especially at the birth. You know, "Listen, P?pite, you get into the correct position and think fast, aerodynamic thoughts and I'll use no drugs and push like hell. I promise there will be copious amounts of boob available afterwards as an incentive." And then maybe some stuff about sleeping and trying to poop more when dad is around.

Updates: Next Tuesday (not tomorrow) is my 20 week u/s. I am hoping we get some 3D pictures, but either way, I'm wicked excited since this is the first time we'll be seeing P?pite since 8 weeks, when s/he had a tail and looked like a square-headed mini T-rex. Next week can't come fast enough.

I also spoke to my Nursing Supervisor for my unit and he said that he wants me to stay on my unit, too, and that they should be able to make accommodations for me-- no guarantees, of course-- that would allow me to better coordinate childcare options. And they'll set up a room for me to pump during my shift. He said usually the unit manager (i.e. him) or the clinical coordinator will cover the assignment for the 20-30 mins it takes to pump (and he was glad to hear that I was planning on getting a double pump to help reduce the time it takes).

  • QTOW - Are you OK with having "old" parents?  DH and I have been talking a lot about this lately.  It is more common in our area, but we know we will be amongst the older moms and dads and hope that doesn't cause a stigma for him or regrets that we might not be able to do some of the things we could if we were younger.

Update - did a big IKEA run over the weekend so we have the big furniture stuff we need - still need to get everything set up.  Blood pressure spiked to 160/100 this morning (I am checking several times a day now per Dr's orders).  I have been pounding water all day and resting this afternoon (I got cut to 1/2 time at my checkup last week) and I am now down to 131/84.  Hoping I can keep it down and stay part time and avoid best rest.  Will find out on Thursday.  We have a growth ultrasound on the 14th - a couple days short of 32 weeks.  And I have my baby shower this weekend.  Must make time to rest and stay hydrated! Ironically, I am feeling the best I have all my pregnancy now (MS seems to have finally gone away!) and I have no swelling or other signs of pre-E, just HBP.

  • QOTW:  I would probably ask about how to keep things happy in our house.  I worry about the complexities of having a blended family (DH has a 5 year old son who will be with us over summers and holidays).

Update:  Nothing much going on.  Just waiting.  I have my NT scan and further work up next week Monday where we will decide if I have the new bloodwork, CVS or amnio.  I'm anxious for that day.

QOTW: I would want to know what kind of a relationship my LO will have with my daughter from a previous marriage - she's 18 and will be busy in college 9 hours away by the time the baby's born. It makes me a little sad that my daughter is this old before getting the little brother or sister she always wanted, but I've also heard from people with similar age gaps for their kids and they say their kids can still have wonderful relationships, so I look forward to seeing how that unfolds.

Share your updates and vents:  After spotting continuously for over four weeks (since a few days after ovulation), it has finally stopped. I kept telling myself it was normal, and my doctor wasn't concerned, but it was still a worry every day.  I'm really looking forward to my first real appointment at 12 weeks, they don't do u/s before 20 weeks for non-high risk pregnancies, but they will do Doppler for HB and I can't wait for DH especially to hear that.  I'm excited to hear it myself too, of course, but having gone through a pregnancy before it's almost more fun anticipating DH's reactions to everything as this is his first.

  • QOTW: This has been quite the crazy roller coaster of a pregnancy so I'd ask my little baby girl if she's hanging on and if she can hang on til the end. And, I'd want to ask her what she needs from us (me and DH) to help her get through her heart condition.

Updates: Just had my amnio done today.  Otherwise, love feeling baby kick more and more...at least she's an active little one!

    First name: Kirsten

    Due date: March 25

    Sex: Girl!

QOTW: Wow, this is a tough one.  Honestly, I wouldn't want to ask anything that would influence how I would raise my little girl.  I've had some pretty crappy things happen to me in my life, but they've helped to define who I am.  If I hadn't had those things happen, I wouldn't be as happy or as grateful of my life that I am now.  I know I'll do my absolute best to raise my daughter, and I can only hope I do well by her.

Wow, that was a little deeper than I was expecting to go with that!

Updates/Vents:  I have horrible sciatica on my right side, and another pinched nerve that runs down from under my bump to my knee on my left side.  I'm stir crazy, but exercising is so so painful with that pain and general pressure.  My little peanut likes to hang out extremely low and kicks my cervix area constantly.  If I wasn't taking Reglan 4 times a day, I'd be vomiting after every meal.  BUT, I only have 2 months to go, so much to do to get ready for her, I just found out I passed my 3 hour blood glucose, and I still get excited and teary eyed when I think about finally having a baby.

No luck on the appointment today.  I am on BP meds and he is thinking of inducing at 35 weeks.  That means this kid could be here in 3 weeks.  Yikes!

CG, I am sorry to hear this. :-(

And today's appointment my BP was 160/110.  It seems like the harder I try, the higher the BP goes.  The meds don't seem to be working.

  • CG: Ah, nerts. That sucks. The only other thing I can even think of suggesting is trying out a home BP cuff if you don't already have one. Perhaps the stress of knowing your BP is high makes it go up even higher when they measure at the office? Just a thought.

No luck on that.  I bought an automatic home cuff hoping that it was high from the walk to the nurses office at my job.  Then I tought maybe the automatic cuff was not calibrated correctly so I took it to my doctors office and did a comparison.  DH has tried taking it before I get out of bed or even move (reminding me of my temping days).  I have tried everything to make this a fluke and not real.  No such luck Sad.  We have tried to find corralations between my activities or what I eat but that has not been successful either.  Pre-e or even eclampsia runs in my family so I guess this is just me.  It is getting frustrating.

  • Sorry to hear that. Well, you're doing all you can for your baby, and that's all anyone can ask of you. But yes, I am sure it is very frustrating. No Just take it one day at a time.
