I have been in early labor since 4pm yesterday. My contractions started at 12 minutes apart and within 3 hours were down to 5-7 minutes apart and 1 minute long. these remained the same all throughout the evening and by 10pm I headed to L&d to see if I was dilating anymore. When I got there my contractions were starting to get more painful ad when they hooked me up to the monitor my contractions were reaching all the way to the top. They monitored me for an hour and everything stayed the same.. Then when they checked my dilation I had only progressed from 1cm to 2cm. I was devastated! They sent me home and offered to give me a sleeping pill, but I said no because I refuse to use any medication during pregnancy and childbirth. well now its the next day and nothing has changed. I am having contractions every 5-6 minutes and I am almost at 24 hours since the beginning. I've been walking, using my birthing ball and lots of squatting.. Is there anything else I can do to help this progress more? I am starting to feel more pressure in my lower abdomen, but they still aren't getting closer! Ughhh!
Re: help progressing early labor faster!!!
No suggestions here... but GOOD LUCK!!!
and speedy thoughts for you and your little one.
I would recommend what I think I remember reading in Natural Hospital Birth - eat, drink, cry, laugh.
During my early labor, I spent a lot of time walking (to burger king for a chocolate shake!), drinking powerade, and watching movies that made me laugh out loud. If you're up for it (and your SO is too) maybe sex would help things along?
You're doing what you can right now and I hope your labor picks up soon. Try to rest if you can, you'll be meeting your LO very soon! GL!
That happened to me with DD. 2 days of 5 minutes apart lasting 1 minute contractions that didn't seem to do anything. I walked until I had blisters on my feet. I honeslty don't think it helped, sooooo if I were you I'd just rest up and wait.
GL!
I had the same, after 23 hours of labor I was only at 2cm. Then I managed to dilate another 3 cm in the next 4 hours to 5cm, I was admitted to the hospital and then delivered 2 hours later, 29 hours of labor total.
Something that seemed to help was a hot shower, as hot as I could stand it for as long as I could stand it. Then I tried to sleep for a while until the labor pains got bad enough for me to want to go back to the hospital again (for the 3rd time).
Good luck! hope you get to meet your little one soon!
I know you had mentioned med free, but idk if you would consider Tylenol or Benadryl... my MW suggested these to help me relax during the early stages of labor if I was having trouble sleeping... or you might try a warm bath... I know if you overdo the bath you could stall it more but not being relaxed enough could be why you aren't progressing too; either way it's food for thought... good luck!!!!

Harmony Doula
This! I never had consistent contractions and they were all over the board. I also had a anterior placenta so my doula and I were worried that LO may not be in the best position. She had me do some positions to help ensure baby was OA. I spent a lot of time on my hands and knees, squatting, etc. You can look at spinning babies.com to get some ideas.
Also what about trying nipple stimulation or sex (if your water has not broken) to get things moving!
