I am exclusively breastfeeding my DD who is almost 4 months old. I have been maintaining a dairy, soy, and egg free diet (and I also don't eat meat or pork-- so it is a huge challege as I normally eat a lot of all 3 of these foods). Also- I try to avoid nuts as I think some bother her so I just avoid them.
Anyways-- I have found that if I go out to dinner at all... even if I order a grilled shrimp salad and tell them that no butter or dairy can be put on it (due to an allergy) the baby still get a bloody diaper that night.
I don't mind keeping up the diet-- but it is so boring to eat the same crap day after day at home.
Any suggestions for things other than sushi, grilled fish and chicken, steamed veggies and fresh fruit. I also found some organic bread that has no egg or milk or soy that I am using. I try to eat lots of avacado and olive oil as well. This is pretty much what I am living on.
Another concern... I am pretty thin and always have been. Since I have been on this diet, I am down to the lowest weight I have ever been (about 101 and I am a touch under 5'5''). I am starting to look like a skeleton.
Anyone else having problems with this diet. How are you keeping weight on? Do you go out to eat ever and if so, what do you order?
Thanks for listening.
Re: Frustrated... baby with milk, soy and egg allergy
Don't eat out?
A lot of dairy and soy are hidden in sauces or are on the cookware that the restaurants are using. It's hard and frustrating... but if you want to continue to breastfeed that you kinda need to deal with it.
We are in month 8 of this and it DOES get easier. You'd be surprised by what you can eat! We don't eat soy, dairy, nuts, or eggs and we're surviving. Hell, I gained weight over the holidays!
I also have a 3 year old so my main goal was pretty much "quick and easy". Here's what we eat a bit of:
Pasta in most forms (other than egg, obviously)
Lots of chicken, I admit. Chicken every which way.
Couscous salads (with chopped chicken, veggies, olive oil, salt and pepper and whatever else I find laying around).
Hummus and tortilla chips/ pita crackers
Chips and salsa
Roasted veggies
Daiya rice cheese on Papa Murphy's pizza (the crust is already vegan)
Cereals, Oatmeal with dried fruit and brown sugar
I even make cookies, pancakes, and other goodies and just use the EnerG egg replacer or applsauce and it works just fine.
Also, if you're worried about keeping weight on, I have two (well, three) words for you: Pop Tarts (and) Oreos! Both are fine on the diet. Also, coconut ice cream and yogurt too.
Believe it or not, even most of the shelf frostings in the baking isle are fine- even the cream cheese flavor. Yeah, I know it's full of chemicals and I used to make my own, but it makes having a birthday cake possible for now.
You can likely eat soy oil and soy lecithin if you aren't already. They don't contain soy protein.
If you haven't already found this website, it's nice. Chock full of recipes too: www.mspimama.com
I'm dairy, soy, and nut free. I avoided eggs for a while, but DD2 seems to tolerate them fine, but I found that they bother MY stomach now, lol! Although, I can usually handle them if they're baked into something.
Anyway, eating out IS hard. I am also having a hard time with losing too much weight. I spoke with a dietitian a while ago and she was very helpful in giving me suggestions of things to eat so that I get enough calories each day. DD2 is almost a year old and I've just started reintroducing small amounts of processed foods that contain dairy/soy, and so far so good. Hopefully your LO will outgrow her intolerances sooner rather than later as well. Anyway, I highly recommend talking with a dietitian for help. Also, I have found some good recipes on this site: https://happyherbivore.com/ Her recipes are vegan and she has some soy free ones as well.
DD1: allergic to eggs & dairy
c/p 4/1/11
DD2: milk and soy protein intolerant, allergic to eggs, soy, peanuts, tree nuts, sesame, bananas

I agree with PP about it getting easier. I am on month 9 of this diet and it has gotten a lot better. I found that bakery bread most times does not have milk, eggs, soy (like cibatta) and that is my go too. Boars head and DW deli meats are also allergen free.
I do eat A LOT of fruit, veggies, beans, chicken, spinach, granola bars, oatmeal, almond butter, tortillas and salsa, triscuits, rice chips etc. You really have to read all the labels when buying things, but there are also some awesome blogs out there with great recipes and brands too look for. I found enjoy life chocolate chips and they are my snack when I want something sweet.
As for the weight, I am right there with you. With BFing and the diet, my weight has dropped a lot!
