2 Sentimental Middle names - which to chose?

I have settled on a first name of Amy - I have always loved the name and its meaning.  I have 2 possible middle names which I would chose from which are sentimental.  The first is Ginger, which is the name of a favorite aunt who has passed away.  The second is Helene (pronounced Heleen) which is a variation on my mom's name Helen.  My last name is a bit awkward sounding and starts with an 'A' .  Please give some feedback on which you like better:

 Amy Ginger or Amy Helene

Thanks!!!!

Re: 2 Sentimental Middle names - which to chose?

  • Would you consider two middle names?

Amy Ginger Helene or Amy Ginger-Helene?
One of my daughters has a double first name plus a middle name.  My other daughter has two middle names.  It's caused no issues and allowed me to use my maiden name for both my girls.

If I had to chose one, I really like Amy Helene.

  • I think Amy Helene sounds better, but I think it's not entirely about sound when honoring family.  Is your mother deceased as well?  Were/are you very close?  I would probably go with Amy Ginger otherwise.

  • Amy Helene flows the best.
  • Amy Helene! It flows better. But I'm biased. My best friend is Amy, and my SIL who I am very close to is Helene.

  • Although I like Ginger better by itself.... I vote for Helene in this circumstance.

My grandmother always tells me about how she was sad that she didn't name her first child after her mother because her mother passed unexpectedly before she had any other children. She always wished she had honored her mother while she was around.

  • Another vote for Amy Helene. I like Amy Gingu can ger just fine, so I don't tthink you can go wrong. But Helene is a beautiful name and I like that the combo varies which syllable is stressed.

  • I think Amy Helene sounds better together. Do you plan on having more kids? You could save Ginger for the next one. Even if you don't have a girl you could use a G name for your boy in your aunt's honor.

  • Odd one out, here, but I actually really like the sound of Amy Ginger. Both are very nice, but I like it better!

  • Amy Helene.  My first name is Amy, and I don't like Ginger with it.

  • I like Helene more, it's such a pretty name.  However, it depends on how you feel about those names.  Who is it more important to honor?  That would weigh more on me when deciding.

  • Amy Ginger, but I don't believe in naming after the living.

  • Thanks for all the positive feedback!  I guess I am leaning towards Amy Helene after mom.  I am going through this on my own and she's been in my corner the whole time.  This will be her 8th grandchild and she has 17 great-grandchildren and will be her first time in the delivery room (while not actually having the baby). I think I will hold off telling her until after the baby's born for a surprise.
