double strollers

I'm dreading buying a double stroller, since I already have 2 other strollers, but I don't see how I will get by without one.

Which do you recommend?  A sit to stand?  I have a graco snug ride carseat that I am assuming the new baby will have to be in in the stroller, so what strollers would fit that?  Only graco?

I'm trying to think far ahead on this one to see if maybe I can snag something on Craigslist instead of purchasing brand new.

Re: double strollers

  • depends on your lifestyle but I used a double every day until fairly recently.

We have the city select which is a single that can convert to a double, has a car seat attachment (not sure on graco but worked with my chicco), you can use it as a single with a glider board for the toddler to ride on, a double, the seats can rotate directions, it really is 3 strollers in 1.

I also have city mini GT which is a side by side and it is big but what we prefer with 2 toddlers, and we now use strollers only for longer outings like the zoo.

I highly suggest going to a store and testing them out (some are tanks and my kolcraft contours one I had every turn was a 3 point turn and it was huge!) Also baby gizmo, Holly Schultz, does amazing reviews on strollers via youtube. I watched many videos and she puts her kids in it of all ages, every configuration, and is very honest about the pros/cons of each.

    Good luck

watch Target. Their baby sale is coming any time now.  Might even be now.  Pretty sure it is January. I grabbed a sit n stand/double seated stroller convertible for  $38 before my youngest was born.

It also had a bar that fit the car seat!  It is big but we used it a ton!

What brand?  did it fit any car seat?

  • I am getting a Baby Jogger City Mini double. I debated and debated and debated a double stroller or trying to get away with a single + baby wearing or a single and DS walking.

The 2011 BJCM double in orange is $200 on albeebaby right now so I just bit the bullet. It's $100 more than the sit n stand I was looking at and given the amount we'll use it (daily walks to the park and two other places I use my stroller a lot) that extra $100 is worth it to me.

  • I absolutely loved my Phil & Ted's Sport double.  I used that thing every day and it was amazing.  It maneuvered well, wasn't too heavy, had air-filled tires (a must, IMO), could easily transition to a single and the kids loved it.

SBS strollers were just not an option for us.  I have heard raves about the City Select as well.  That is one I would consider now if we were in the market

  • I have a Combi Twin Sport and my Graco car seat fit perfectly when DD was a baby. It was very reasonably priced and I really like it a lot.

This is great advice. We love ours and still use it for neighborhood walks and traveling. DD1 is 4 so I don't use it for mall and zoo type trips anymore. It's a fantastic stroller, great maneuverability, good shades, etc. DD1 isn't slightly above average for height and still has plenty of room.

I am one of the few who hate sit n stands. The actual seat barely reclines. It just doesn't work for me. I need them to be able to both fully recline and sleep for traveling. I don't use the car seat in strollers, so it was useless that way.

The BJCM can be used from birth, but I wore DD2 the first 2 months or so and used a single.

This is my beef with all the sit n stands I looked at. Which is why I feel like spending a little more on a good double for us is worth it, even if I'll only use it a short time.

I used my double all the time until just a few months ago. My boys are 18mo apart and the oldest is 4 1/2. I loved my bumbleride indie twin because it was easy to maneuver with them in it and they were always comfortable. My favorite feature was that you can lay both kids completely flat if they fall asleep , DS#1 use to complain if he was in a single and fell asleep because it wasnt comfortable to have his legs dangling. They definitely arent cheap though, but I have seen used ones at decent prices.

    AGREE AGREE AGREE!

I use the heck out of our Bumbleride! Both girls still enjoy riding in it- parades, theme parks, zoo, etc... It hands down was the best purchase I made when we had DD2. I prefer Side by side footprint. In the end, both DH & I agree, while it was costly, it was worth every single penny.

  • I have a graco sit an stand which I love.  My dd sits more and behaves more because she thinks she's in control lol.  She likes that she can get off and get on at her will.  Plus she can play with ds at the same time.
  • This website will tell you which strollers are compatible with Graco carseats--you have to go to the bottom of the chart and click Double Strollers.

I decided on a Zooper Tango.  I think it really depends on which features are most important to you.  A huge selling point for me is a big bottom basket that is easily accessible all the time.  A lot of strollers don't have this--especially tandems.  The only tandem I could find that had great reviews on the basket was the City Select but it was way out of my price range.  The Zooper was right at the top of my price range, but I found one on Ebay for $280 so I went for it.
