I'm pregnant with twin boys and they will more than likely come early which will mean they are to small for the one size fit all.
I've looked into both rumparooz lil joey, fuzzibuns xs. Both are supposed to fit 4lb babies. We aren't interested in doing prefolds.
What are everyone's suggestions? Should we start with disposable and switch to cloth or are the xs cloth diapers worth the investment?
Re: Start with disposables and switch to cloth?
The great thing about newborn diapers is that since they are used for such a short time they often stay in great condition and hold their resale value. Many people will recommend buying your newborn stash used to save money and you will be able to resell them for close to what you paid for them. Even if you don't want to buy used you can still resell them when your done. My little girl was quite small at only 5lbs 4oz and I wish I had known she'd be so small so I would have gotten more tiny diapers. I only have 4 lil joeys which of our nb stash are the only diapers I could get to fit under her stump so sadly we're using disposables until it falls off. I think that lil joeys should fit twins at birth as they are quite tiny. To give you an idea of resell, I've been looking at diaperswappers.com to buy some more and they sell used for 10-12 dollars generally compared to the 2/30$ or $15 a piece they sell for new.
Given that newborns go through ~12-15 diapers per day, XS/NB diapers are even more worth it if you're expecting your babies to be on the smaller side.
With twins, you'd probably want to wash every day or day and a half, so you'll need about 4 dozen diapers. If you buy used at $10 each, that's $480. With small babies they will probably fit for 3 months. Three months of disposables for twins will likely cost about the same or a little more, but you can sell the cloth diapers for $480, essentially diapering for free.
I don't have twins, but if I did I would absolutely use cloth from the beginning. Not only for the cost savings, but also for not having to leave the house with 2 babies when I ran out of diapers!
As the pp said, Alva also has a great nb diaper, but I don't think my LO fit into his until he was close to 10 lbs. He is still wearing them at 14 lbs though and there is still plenty of room. They are a good cheap option for that transition time when one size are really bulky but your babies have outgrown the nb dipes.
