Activities for birthday party?

For DD's 2nd birthday, we had 12 kids + parents over, with kids ranging from 1-7.  I planned 3 activity centers for the kids - stickers, cupcake decorating, and one of those cut out foam project things.  However, barely any of the kids participated.  The younger kids played with DD's toys in the living room, while the older ones ran around our backyard.  For DD's 3rd party this year, I'm unsure about what to do.  It will be the same group of kids.  Should I just let them do whatever, plan some stuff, hire someone to come in and entertain, rent a bouncy house.....????  DH thinks they could just do whatever, it's not like our house was destroyed or anything last year.  Maybe because I'm a teacher, I feel like I need to have SOME sort of organized activity for a large group of kids.... :)

  • You seriously can never go wrong with a bouncy house.

This is for all the caterpillars that never became butterflies. And for all the butterflies that never felt the wind in their wings. And for all the hearts that had hopes and dreams of a wondrous flight together.
  • 3 is such a different ball game from 2!  I agree that a bouncy house is a big winner.  Perhaps have one art thing they can do too.  If you can find the big blank  canvases you can do a painting station that each kid then gets to take home.  Those are pretty cool because they are immediately hang-able KWIM.  I've seen them at Discount School Supply before but only sometimes.

Totally agree.  Kids are diff at this age so something is good but don't overdo it.  Maybe a couple simple games.

  • Kids love those bouncy houses... LOL!

But I'd have an indoor activity planned too, a craft or cookie/cupcake decorating. I agree that 3 yr olds are a whole other ballgame than 2 yr olds with doing that type of thing for sure.  Also I am pretty sure the chance of rain in San Diego is like next to nothing but maybe just in case?

  • We are having DDs bday at an indoor play place that has two bounce houses and I am bring a pull string pi?ata and I also hired a face painting lady to come. We have about 8 kids and 20 adults coming. My kids, 4.5 and 2, love to get their faces painted. Thats always a great and easy option to have. Im not planning on any organized activitie other then trying to get them all together at some point to do the pinata.
