Did you pack your bag yet?

I was wondering how many of you have packed your hospital bag yet? I will be 31 weeks tomorrow.  I know that I can go at any time now but hopefully won't until it gets closer to my due date.  I am thinking about packing my hospital bag but kind of feel like I am "jinxing" myself if I do.  I know that is a silly way to think.  Does anyone else feel this way or have you all started packing?

Re: Did you pack your bag yet?

  • YES!  :)

Per my thread below, I packed my bag last weekend.  It's good that I did, because I was admitted to the hospital on Thursday.  I was beyond thankful to have a spare set of makeup, toiletries, my favorite yoga pants, etc..

  • I'd honestly not planned on packing the hospital bag until around 34 weeks. I'm not terribly worried about forgetting anything, but if we do it wouldn't be a big deal to ask the in-laws or a friend to swing by our place and grab it if they were on their way to see us.

I do have a post it note on the fridge of a checklist of things to grab in case I go into labor early and we need to pack very quickly. It just has essentials. Take home outfit, change of clothes for me, camera, lanolin, and my diabetes bag that has my glucometer, insulin, syringes, etc. I know that the hospital will have insulin and syringes that they'll administer to me, but I'd rather use my own glucometer for consistency and so that I have those sugars in the system for my logs at home.  I also already have a single dark chocolate truffle in that little bag that I'm saving as a reward for giving birth. :D

  • I have one started, i put in all my make up and other toilteries in. I have a few nursing tops i'm going to go ahead and put in and maybe some yoga pants and a set of nursing pj's. I need to get some breastfeeding basics to put in, i'm waiting till our shower next week to pack Little guys diaper bag.  My husband has been asking and asking me for weeks now if i have one and this week i'm going to get my self in gear, bless his heart i think he is nervous to begin with and is afraid if i send him back to the house with a list, he will have no idea what i'm talking about!

Haha that is so true.  He hasn't thought about this yet but I can only imagine having to send him home with a list especially if it is because I went early.  He would probably be a wreck and I would have to be on the phone with him the whole time cause of how confused he would be.

I haven't packed yet! I figure 34 weeks is a good time. I have a few things put aside for when I do pack and like a PP said I have a list in the event of an emergency packing.
  • I have started packing. I have most of the essentials and I have my LO's bag almost complete. I don't think you will be jinxing anything. I think it is always better to be safe than sorry.

  • No, I'll probably pack around 35-36 weeks.  After I had DS, I realized that DH would not be comfortable sleeping in the horrible reclining chair they provided for the spouse, so I sent him home each night.  He could easily pick stuff up for me that I need and there's nothing that has to go with me right away (of course, I hope to be packed and ready but it's not the end of the world if I'm not).

  • I was thinking about this the other day, I'll be 32 weeks this Tuesday and its true we can go early. I know DH would have no clue where anything would be at or what we would need. I still have to get stuff for me to take to the hospital, I think I'll order it on amazon since I have been making a list there of everything I need. I still can't believe that we are all at this point and soon we'll have our LO in our arms.

  • I'm slacking and haven't done anything. I'm just going to make a list of what I want to bring and assemble it when I go into labor since a lot of it is stuff I use every day, yoga pants, shirts, makeup, etc.

This is actually probably exactly what I will end up doing even though I said I'd be packing around 35-36 weeks.  Reality is, we haven't done anything yet either.  (I did go buy a RnP today and browed a few other baby items that we need, but that's pretty much the extent).

  • Nope. In a few weeks or so I might just have a bag in my room and randomly start throwing stuff in/around it, but a lot of the stuff I will still need on a daily basis so it won't get backed till closer to the end.
  • Hi I'm
32 weeks and I just packed my hospital bag this wkend : better to be be prepared I say :
  • Reading this post made my palms sweat!  We are getting so close.  I will pack my bag around 34-35 weeks.  After reading this, I will make a list of what to take.  Luckily, we live real close to the hospital so if I forget anything, the hubs can run home and get it!

Feeling the same way here. I just told DH yesterday that I want to start getting my bag ready because you just never know. Unlike many of you who sound like you live somewhat near the hospital where you'll be delivering, we live an hour away from the hospital. DH won't be able to make a quick trip home to get anything that I may have forgotten. Also, we live an hour away from any decent shopping so I think I'm going to make a list in the next couple of days and maybe make a trip into the city next weekend to pick up any essentials I might need.

We were in the city today for some shopping. While perusing the baby section for some baby shower gifts (for a dual baby shower I'm going to in a week and a half), my DH and SKs were impatiently waiting for me. I hate trying to shop when they're with me. I had wanted to snoop around a bit and maybe pick up a few items for myself today but I was getting annoyed with them. I think a solo trip to the city is the cards for me in the near future.

  • Nope. I still have to buy a house, pack an apartment, and then I will get around to packing a bag. Honestly, I didn't pack a bag last time around until I went to the doctor and she told me I was six cm dilated and in labor. Which I didn't know.I hope I am so lucky this go round to have an easy labor :0)
  • I talked to the DH about what we have to do and about packing my bag.  He looked at me like I was nuts when I said I want to start packing.  He thinks we have all the time in the world.  I need to light a fire under his butt so he realizes that 9 weeks isn't really that long.   I don't want to be running around getting organized during the last few weeks.  After reading all of your responses I think Im going to start my bag.  There are things I still have to get and stuff I will still be using but at least I can have some things ready.

  • I pulled out LOs diaper bag and a bag for myself this week-end. I printed out the checklist on this website, and sent a message to my 3 friends who recently had babies asking for advice on what to bring with me. I started throwing some little things in the bags, and went to the store today to pick up some comfy clothes that I won't mind getting ruined/dirty. I am also a HUGE couponer so I went shopping in my stockpile and added some more. I'm hoping to be completely packed in a week or 2. My shower isn't un til Feb. 2nd so LOs bag will probably have to wait till then to be complete.

  • I have a bag out and I've been throwing stuff in it as I go.  So far I only have nursing tanks, breast pads and toiletries in there.  I'm still trying to decide what kind of pants to bring.  Last time I brought yoga pants and was totally self conscious walking around with a big ole' pad in my pants.  This time I'll go for something looser and not so butt-huggy.

  • Nope; probably won't worry about it for another couple weeks.  If he comes now I have bigger problems than me not having a hospital bag.... Like not having a crib or pack'n play for him to sleep in, his room just got painted and we're getting our floors redone!

  • Ha, 31 weeks?  I packed while in labor last time.  It's pretty rare that you would literally have to drop everything and go to the hospital that second.  You could get a few things together but honestly it's more than likely go to sit there for the next 9 weeks.

  • I don't know what came over me but last week I decided that I had to go shopping for things that I need in my bag.  I even bought a little hair dryer for in it.  I then put all of that stuff in a bag and gathered up other things from the house that I thought that I would need.  I had a great deal of urgency behind it and I was starting to worry that I would go into labor because I was so convinced that it had to be done right that moment.  I have not put the things into the suitcase yet because I don't know where DH keeps my suitcase.
