When did you make the sleeping switch?

I am toying with the idea of graduating DS to his own room. He wakes me up with every little grunt or squeak. I'm still terrified of SIDS, but I'd like to get a decent night of sleep.  DS is almost 1 month adjusted age. I do have the Snuza, but haven't used it yet since he sleeps in the RnP next to me. When did you make the big switch? Did you put LO straight into the crib or the RnP/bassinet first? He has terrible reflux so I'm not sure the crib will work anyway.

Also, he likes to be swaddled, but I don't want him in his own room w/o being strapped in the RnP. Any tips on how to work around that?

TIA everyone!

Re: When did you make the sleeping switch?

  • We transitioned into his room at 3 months adjusted..simply because that's when we got a monitor and he would finally sleep without us holding him. My DS slept in his swing. If he was swaddled, we would just modify the straps around the base of the swaddle. Then I did get worried about him stretching himself out of the swing, so I bought a crib wedge for under his mattress to help with his reflux. I would highly recommend them. The wedge worked wonders for my boy! Good luck! :)

  • We moved Adalyn to her room when she was about 4 months actual/1 month adjusted.  We started with naps in her crib and then just let her sleep there overnight.  For us, we lucked out as it was relatively non-dramatic.  She had been sleeping in the RNP next to us before that in our room.  She still had oxygen and the monitors, but we made it work.  She was still so small that we never bothered to strap her in the RNP when she was swaddled before that.

  • We moved her to her own room at 6 months actual. That is just when we felt ready. We had her sleep in the RnP for a few weeks before transitioning to the crib. We all slept better once she moved to the nursery.

  • I cant remember exactly when we moved to crib, I want to say 2 months adjusted. We did the same thing as dr rx and started napping in crib to get her used to the space, it was an easy transition. We also used the fisher-price sea horse and only ply it when we put her to sleep so she associates that with bed times. As far as the straps, if you have the actual swaddle me swaddles there is a slit in the back that you can thread the middle strap through so it comes out of the front of the swaddle then you put the straps on each side like normal. Hope that makes sense!
