Cradle Cap

DD has cradle cap and I am having trouble getting rid of it.

I have oiled up her head and brushed it gently for a couple weeks now and no change. She has really long hair too and its a mess! She looks like an old man with a major comb over and dandruff!

Any tips or tricks?

Re: Cradle Cap

  • My pedi recomened adult dandruff shampo it worked like a charm. I used it twice and it got it under control. Now he just has a little here and there. She said only use a pea size amount. She also suggested putting hydrocortisone cream after but if your lo has a lot if hair that maybe messy

  • DS had it pretty bad and I was leaving it alone for so long, but honestly, I didn't see it resolving itself. At bath time, after I'd soap his hair and his skin is soft, I'd lightly scratch his head with my nails. Just a bit each night in the bath. After the bath I brushed lightly, just to get the loose stuff out of the hair, not to get anymore off.

His cradle cap was gone within a few days. I just give a quick little scratch in the bath now to keep everything away and his scalp is beautiful now! Haha

selsum blue worked the best for us

and washing it every night with that.

no lotion or anything, that just makes it worse.

  • Coconut oil!!!!!!  DS had cradle cap at 2 months old and I did a ton of research on natural ways to get rid of it.  Everyone said coconut oil!  I just bought a giant tub they sell at walmart for around $5.  Massage it into LO's scalp and then take a very thin baby comb and gently comb through their hair and the scabs just lift off.  After you get done combing out all the scabs massage some more oil into their head and put a cap on and leave overnight.  DS has NEVER had a problem with cradle cap again and his scalp is sooooo smooth now :)

Another good use of coconut oil is it's a great diaper rash cream :) We use it because it's cloth diaper friendly!

  • Wow thanks for the ideas! I will try them and see if it clears up!
