Hey y'all (and a question if you've had a D&E/D&C)

Hi everyone... I'm resurfacing and getting back into the swing of things and wanted to say hello. I've lurked here and there since our loss and hope everyone had a good holiday season!

I know there's a Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss board and a TTCAL board, but I wanted to check with you guys... If you've had a D&E/D&C, how long were you told to wait to TTC again? I know the opinions are mixed, and I should just go with what my doctor said, but I guess I'm wondering what others think.

FWIW, he mentioned waiting two cycles, but I always hear about people getting KU so soon after a D&C... Emotionally I'm probably not quite ready, but can't imagine waiting for two whole cycles. That seems like an eternity when all I can think is, "I should be ten weeks pregnant right now..." Sad

With the D&C it's different than a regular m/c because your body physically has to heal from the procedure. I was told no sex for 6 weeks and to wait 8 weeks to TTC (we weren't so that wasn't a big deal). I was in second tri so I don't know if it makes a difference.

Yeah, I think I may call again and ask specifics. He said we could have sex as soon as we wanted to (and we already have, unprotected, which is what got my mind going)...

It was actually no sex for 2 weeks and no TTC for either 6 or 8 weeks, I wrote that wrong. I don't remember the specifics of why but the reason made sense at the time. Something about having to dilate your cervix and possible scar tissue or needing to go back in. I had to go in at 6 weeks for a check up to make sure everything was good.

I was told no sex for 3 weeks and that I could try after 1 cycle. I would listen to your Dr, your body needs to heal.

With our dc in July I was told no sex for 8 weeks and onetwo cycles before ttc ..like lopes I was in my second trimester but I'd say two cycles would be the usual wait.

with both of mine I wa stold 2 weeks no sex and one cycle ttc. I think it is just to let you heal and for dating reasons.

I had a D&E at 17 weeks and was told no sex until my 2 week post D&E check up. After that, the doc said it is standard (for them) to tell people to wait 3 cycles for a few reasons.

1 - it gives your body some time to regulate the cycles so it is easier to date the pg.

2 - it gives you some time to heal emotionally/physically

3 - in case there were any problems with the procedure since there could be tissue left over or excessive/prolonged bleeding

I know it is difficult and there is the feeling of needing to be pg asap, but I would really recommend following your doctors orders.

After my natural m/c's, I was not told to wait but they were relatively early in the pg.

I had a D&C and was told to wait 3 cycles before TTC again. I don't remember how long they said to wait til sex.

I remember feeling exactly like you did. I was always mentally calculating how far along I should be and all I could think about was getting KU again

((Hugs)) I usually post on the PAL board that would be pretty helpful for you. I had a D&C but it was after I delivered DD at 22 weeks and had to have one due to retained tissue so my situation is a little different, I was told to wait 3 cycles.

I was told to wait 1 week for sex and 1 cycle to TTC. I was 6weeks post D&C before I got AF. I still think about how far along I should be, not sure when that goes away. Sorry for your loss.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I totally get what you mean by the "I should be..." statement. I should've been 17w now myself Sad .

I didn't have a D&C with either of my two losses, but was told to wait a cycle before TTC again each time. I would go with what your doctor recommended, and if you don't think that is the right answer for you I'd say to talk to the doc and see WHY they recommend that. If you are unsure if you are ready emotionally to try again, wait a bit. Being pregnant after a loss is an emotional rollercoaster.

I was told to wait 2 cycles, we chose to wait much longer, considering it we got pregnant right away the first time, assumed it would happen quickly when we tried again, and it didn't for us. With my natural MC we were pregnant again the very next cycle.
