I am just posting over hear for some info if you have it. My 23 month old ate some cookies that had different forms of tree nuts and now she has a brutal allergic reaction rash all over her body.
I am just looking for info on dealing with tree nut allergies, because I personally know nothing about it.
TIA
Re: XP: Tree Nut Allergy
I don't know a lot, but I would suggest Benadryl or Zyrtec to treat the rash. I would also consult your pedi and see if she wants to see her or will refer you to an allergist. Once you figure out specifically what she's allergic to, you can avoid it.
Good luck, that would scare me!
Thanks
sorry for my typo everyone I was on my phone and it must have corrected here to hear lol
I second seeing an allergist. The problem with serious allergies is that often each subsequent exposure can cause a more serious reaction. All 3 of mine are allergic to different nuts and one has gone into anaphylactic (sp?) shock once. Seriously the most frightening thing ever.
If she has nut allergies you need an epipen at home and school. In the meanwhile, I would avoid all nuts and keep Benedryl on hand. Good luck!
What kind of reaction did she have?
You need to talk with your Pedi. They should send you take have testing done to determine exactly what all she's allergic to. Most likely you'll get an EPI pen - take it every where...and Benadryl too.
My son had peanut and tree nut allergies that we found out the hard way on at 12 months. Basically the only thing you can do is keep away from them, read labels and always have the epi pen with you along with benadryl. Your allergist can devise an allergy action plan for daycares/schools. You'll need epi pens for every location (daycare, home, etc).
It isn't as bad as you may think--unless he's ultra sensitive and can't be around the dust--then it's tougher. We were lucky. We are also blessed because apparently he's growing out of it as he's had a tree nut since and didn't react (thank GOD!).
I HIGHLY recommend you also stay away from peanuts if you're in doubt. We eat sunbutter which is from sunflower seeds (not a peanut or tree nut) and it tastes very similar to peanut butter. It's actually all we eat now. I love it. You can get in some grocery stores by the organic stuff, health food stores and on amazon.
My son was also allergic to eggs, wheat, all dairy and soy--so we started the blog that is in the siggy. I haven't kept up with it much since he's growing out of the allergies so much. But there are links to other sites that may help you.

Notes:
Since there was a reaction, you need to see the pediatrician. You child should probably have some allergy testing and the pediatrician and/or allergist will determine if you need an EpiPen Jr. I would say they would probably prescribe one out of precaution and because it was a reaction to a nut.
