Hello all...I am 21 weeks today and yesterday I went to the doc for a routine check up. When she was finding baby's heartbeat it took a while which does not bother me because the baby was moving around a lot. When she was able to find it the range was 130 and went up to 140. She acted a bit concerned and asked if I had heard the dip in the frequency and said she wanted to listen a bit longer and then it happened again. She said it usually doesn't happen twice and I asked what it could mean. She said that it could be a fluke or that I do not have enough amniotic fluid; however a couple of weeks ago I had an ultrasound and my fluid was fine. She also said that the baby could be clenching the umbilical chord......I am going in again next fri and in the meantime I am not stressed because there is no point Anyone have this happen before or have any input?
Thank You!
Re: Dip in heart beat?
Thanks for your response. I guess I am not quite sure what she was asking....But basically the baby's heartbeat was at a certain bpm and it suddenly went down then back up, and it repeated this again.
You said the baby was moving a lot. I'd simply assume that the variations were due to that, just like our heartrate a jump when we roll over in bed or get up from sitting. No big deal, I wouldn't think. But I guess it's good she plans to recheck it. GL.
Me too. Depending on how wiggly Baby is being the HR can vary often. Sorry she freaked you out like that. Mine did that too a few weeks ago when she said she couldn't even FIND the heartbeat. They looked with the big ultrasoun machine and the little bugger was hiding on my far right side.
WHEW! But I hear ya with the worry...in your case....DON'T worry! Varying heartbeat is totally normal. THink of it as they're doing their workout intervals then taking a rest!
I can not figure out how to post without responding to someone's post.....
I just wanted to say thanks for all the input. After church yesterday my Pastor's wife who is also a midwife listened to baby and we found the hearbeat no problem and it was strong and consistent! She also let me borrow one of her doppler things to keep throughout the rest of the pregnancy so I can check in on the little guy if I want. He has been very active too so that has helped ease my mind in knowing that he is probably getting the right amount of blood flow? Take care and thanks again!
