So I had an ultrasound the other day and they put all the measurement in and said that his weight was 4 lbs something (can't remember) oz. The ultrasound tech said that was the size for someone around 33 1/2 weeks and I'm only 30 1/2 weeks. Now I'm freaking out! Every ultrasound I have had so far said baby was measuring small so they moved my due date from 03/08 to 03/12. Now he's huge. I am planning on delivering at a birth center so I'm really scared of having like a 10 lb baby. Did anyone else have a similar situation where baby measure big at this stage! Help, I'm freaking out.
P.S. I haven't gained a ton of weight, 14 lbs so far, so I don't know why he would be so big. Do you think a super healthy diet would help make sure he doesn't get too big?
Re: 30 week ultrasound... baby is over 4 pounds!!
I'm sure your baby's fine and he won't be "huge". The difference between 31 weeks and 33 weeks is only 1lb.
Keep in mind, baby's gain just under half a pound a week in those final weeks, and even less in the 30-35 weeks. But, estimating half a pound a week, your baby only has 5 more pounds to gain between now and your due date, and it could easily be less. A 9lb baby is big, but not "huge", and lots of women safely deliver 10+ lb babies.
Ultrasounds this late in the game are all estimated measurements.
+/- 10 days of your estimated delivery date. And +/- 2 pounds.
I side eye the fact that they changed your EDD. The first US is the most accurate and typically they do not change due dates unless there are known facts of conception etc. With DS they said he was small on his first US then from 18 weeks on he was huge and measured in the 90th percentile. He was born at 8 pounds, 8 ounces and 23.5" (@ 39w5d). They were guessing 10+ lbs.
I really would not worry. Sounds like a healthy baby.
Good Luck!

DD (5 years old) from IUI in 2012
TTC 3rd and final!: IUI #1 in progress!
i had a growth u/s with DD at 30 weeks and she measured 5lbs 2oz. had another at 36 1/2 weeks and she measured 8lbs 8oz. i delivered her at 38 weeks weighing 9lbs 3oz so my u/s were pretty darn accurate. i have heard of them being off, it depends on the equipment and who is doing the measurements. at my u/s the tech and doctor both measured several times to make sure they were correct.
nothing wrong with a big baby though! you'll be fine
Take it with a grain of salt.
Ultrasound measurements, especially for weight, can be off by 1 to 2 pounds, and even when they are fairly accurate, the ultrasound could have been done after the baby just went through a growth spurt.
I'm sure you'll be fine.
