March 2013 Moms

Have been posted in a long time.

i havent been on here since we found out the sex of our baby at 16 weeks due to personal problems, but all is well...

just out of curiosity ive been reading that alot of you have been getting ultrasounds im 30 weeks pregnant and my next drs appointment is at 32 weeks. should i be concerned with the fact that i havent had an ultrasound since 20 weeks? my insurance covers it so it's not an issue...was just curious if i should be asking about having one soon?

Re: Have been posted in a long time.

  • You usually don't have another ultrasound after 20 weeks.  I am having another one closer to my due date to check my placenta position because it was low at 20 weeks.  I am also having a 3D one coming up because my DH's uncle is an obgyn and offered to due one after my shower!

  • My practice does u/s at 12 weeks and 20 weeks only unless there are signs of complications.

  • I just had another u/s because there were some concerns that our baby was small.  One indication was some level they tested early on and one was my fundal height was below average.

    We'll based on yesterday's u/s, I have caught up!

If there had not been concerns, we would not have had another one.

  • As PPs indicate, if you have a normal pregnancy, ie no problems or anything of concern, you will not have another ultrasound after 20 weeks until the very end when they need to see if LO is breech or not. I think my OB does it at 36 or 38 weeks.

  • Most of us who are getting ultrasounds are high risk or there is a potential issue. Some doctors do growth scans at the very end but most won't do any ultrasounds at all after the anatomy scan unless there is a problem with size, placenta, etc.

All of this exactly. I'm not high risk, and I don't have any complications. My last ultrasound was at 18 weeks for the anatomy scan, and I won't be having another.
