Hi ladies -
I am 20 weeks pregnant with LO#2 and few days ago, I started having consistant menstral like cramps in the company of dull back pain. I called my OB and he said to go to the hospital to be checked. I did so, and they found that my cervix was 3.4 and I was not having contractions. They sent me home saying as long as I wasn't spotting everything was fine. Then last night, I started spotting. I went back to the hopsital and they again sent me home and said I was fine. This morning I saw my OB for a follow up, he checked my cervix and said that all looked good and he was not concerned. However, he did put me on bedrest for the weekend and told me to drink ALOT of water and check back in next week.
I was just curious how many of you, or if any of you, started out this way? My MIL is concerned that I may be high risk for a preterm labor as she had the same symptoms and all six of her kids were at least a month early. The dr doesn't seem to share this concern, but I was just curious if anyone started out this way and where they were now.
Thanks,
Re: Cramping/Backpain
For lots of people this is normal, for others it is not. I had it with my last pregnancy and was high risk for pre term labor but none of the cramps were actually contractions. It was just discovered that I had a short cervix. I was told I have an irritable uterus which is why I was getting the cramping but the cramping never did anything to change my cervix.
My piece of advice is to call when you get the pains and get checked, it can't hurt and it's better to be told it is nothing then to sit there worrying
Thank you for your response. They checked my cervix in the OB and determined that the cramps weren't causing any dialation, so I am relieved about that. It is nice to hear nothing is wrong, especially when i've had a miscarriage in the past.
Thanks again
