Moms with LO who have reflux...

how did you know you LO needed their meds increased or changed?

    About 4 weeks ago LO was changed from Zantac to Prevacid.  She'd been on zantac for about 4 months.  Her spitting up increased dramatically and she began to act like she was in pain again.

    After we started solids at 6 months, spitting up increased with pain. We changed from zantac to nexium.

    He would scream and arch his back in pain whenever it flared up.  At 9 months old he is on .8 mL Zantac 2x a day.  If we forget to give it... he definitely reminds us.  He will scream if we lay him down to be changed and he hasn't had his med.  

    Dr. won't up his dose anymore and wants him to outgrow it.  I wonder if the Prevacid isn't working? Why did LO change meds if Zantac worked?

    ETA: Sorry I commented on the first post, and not OP. I'm tired!

    Sorry I realized what I typed could be misleading. Her meds were changed when the spitting up increased and the pain started again. That occurred prior to the Prevacid, not after.

    .8 of Zantac twice a day is a very low dose. That's what LO was on at 5lbs and they increased her dose with weight. I'd be concerned that your doctor won't ever raise the dose, it takes some kids 2 years to "grow out" of reflux. Although I realize that isn't the norm.

    I'm wondering if my LO should change his medicine now, as it doesnt seem to be working anymore. 

    Also he hates the taste and spits some of it out which doesn't help matters...

     

    I just noticed that our LOs have the same birthday!! :)

    Aww! Yes they do! :):)  So neat!

     I am also concerned that LO's meds aren't working anymore.  Her Zantac was upped from 1.2 ml 2 times a day to 1.5 ml.  I actually today started back at "day 1" w/ solids so I can figure out if there's something she's eating that is bothering her.  She ate prunes for weeks and then suddenly she was projectile vomiting at night. She also started "burping" and then making a face like what she burped up was nasty.... she never did that before but has always had "wet burps".  So we are back to just rice cereal and sweet potatoes for a few days and then to avocado.  If none of this seems to work I'm going to ask for a med change.  Ican't stand to see her in pain!
