3rd Trimester

If you've had a csection before...

How painful is your previous incision area at this point? During 2nd tri I felt a lot of stretching and it started to hurt sometimes when I laughed, sneezed, or coughed the wrong way. Now, it's a constant dull pain, shooting pains when I cough or sneeze or move the wrong way, and it sometimes feels like contractions are happening down there. Normal?

  • I have zero pain with mine. Honestly I forget its even there. Mine is pretty short and really low on my bikini line. Maybe its in placement?

  • No pain here either and I have had 2 c/s.  I have heard people complain of aching wwhile their body is growing/stretching so maybe it isn't that uncommon.

  • I've had zero pain as well, I don't even notice it. Maybe you should bring it up to your doc?

  • Hm, wasn't expecting those answers. When I was stretching out and sore I brought it up and the NP said "that's normal, and will probably only get worse as you get further along." It went away for a while and has only really come on in the past few days again, I'll definitely bring it up Wednesday at my appointment, or call tomorrow if its still painful and contracting feeling. My scar is pretty low and short too, which is why it feels like a strange place for pain.

  • No pain or anything here.  But DD was early, so maybe my incision was smaller than others?

  • Mine was really sore too. And my doc said it was normal too. I've also heard that your bladder can attach to the scar tissue and cause pain in the next pg. But they said its not an issue and nothing you can do about it. Hope yours starts to feel better soon!

  • I'd definitely mention it to your OB, but scar tissue probably doesn't stretch as well as regular tissue.  I haven't really noticed mine at all, but my big pregnant belly kind of hangs over the scar area.  Maybe you are carrying really low lately too and there is more pressure on that area.

  • I don't have any pain with my incision area, but it does get itchy at times.  I noticed earlier that it would itch as my belly was starting to grow.  It itches every once in awhile now.  But that's it, no pain for me.  Sorry you're dealing with that!

  • Sounds like we might be the only two? I didn't have a c/s but I have the same incision from having my ovary removed. OB said it is the exact same place a cs incision would be. I got pregnant only two months after having surgery and have had lots of pain in my scar area but OB said it was normal for me because I didn't get to finish healing. And the surface of the scar is such an eye soar since it has stretched a bit as I grow. It stings some days if anything touches it and is very sensitive but I always get told it's nothing to worry about. =/

That would be my guess, that LO dropped and is putting more pressure on the scar. Mine isn't particularly short (I was expecting shorter, I think), but it is low and I haven't had any pain associated with it.
