Pregnant after IF

Baby measuring small at 36 weeks. Has anyone been there?

Hi there,

Sorry I haven't been on the board in a while.  Since I was diagnosed with GD back in November I have mostly been active on the High Risk board.  Of course one of the concerns with GD is a big baby but I have the opposite problem. . .I am 36 weeks + 2 days today and my MFM doc guessed the baby is about 5lbs, 10oz which is smaller than average.

Has anyone else been there?  Was your baby ok?  Was the ultrasound inaccurate?  I'd love any advice.  I'm trying not to freak out too much.

Thanks!

  • Did they tell you what percentile the baby is in right now? One of my babies has been as small as the 14th percentile but they don't really get concerned unless they measure smaller than the 10th percentile, especially if cord flow is good.

  • I do know that the baby puts on a lot of weight in the final weeks. I swear our DD gained two pounds in the last two weeks. You still have a month to go.. Plenty of time got your LO to gain weight.

  • Agree with Tombomb!! My boys were measuring in around 4lbs. at 34 w and diagnosed with IUGR due to their abdominal circs and femur lengths. Their heads were huge, so they were still above the 10th percentile for overall weight. However, they met the qualifications because their other sizes were in the first and second percentiles. They were born at 36w at 4lbs 13oz and 4lbs 15 oz. No NICU time and no ongoing health problems. Some people just have small babies :)

Our perfect baby boys were born at 36w1d!!

  • Thanks everyone.  I too am hoping the ultrasound is wrong.

I think the problem is that even though babies are supposed to pack on the pounds at the end, if she hasn't been gaining the right amount of weight all along, she might not pack on the pounds the way another baby would.

Here's hoping the placenta is healthy and strong and she comes out and surprises us as an 8 lber.

    Thanks again.
