being neighborly

There's a new young couple that moved into the neighborhood a while back. I would see the husband outside but I was never sure if he was just a worker cuz I would see lots of people in and out of the house. I saw the wife twice and I thought she was pregnant but you shouldn't assume.
Anyways, I've never introduced myself because that's just not my style but DH thinks they had their baby and maybe even a girl. I'd like to go and finally introduce myself and let her know I'm happy to help. We all know how nice it is to have people close by in a pinch. Plus I think they have a dog and I've made more neighborhood friends that way then just ringing their doorbell. So my question is what should I take over? I know as new parents we liked prepared food but that would be odd from a stranger. I was thinking of a little a basket with....?All the stuff I can think of that I could have used at that stage is creepy getting from a stranger like lanolin cream. Any thoughts? TIA!

Washcloths! I got a basket of washcloths, 4 infant emery boards, breast pads, and a nursing tank (which then prompted me to go out and buy 8 more!), lotion/powder, Lanolin cream, and bibs. Best.Gift.Ever!

I would just pack little stuff that a FTM (?) might not have thought she needed. A Halo sleep sack w/velcro swaddle was also something I got that I thought I would never use. Three weeks in and I was so mad that I didn't use it earlier!

This might be touchy but I got a sample box of those 2oz ready-to-feed formulas. It was a life saver when my milk wasn't coming in and DD was losing more weight than the pedi liked.

You can also offer your services such as walking the dog for them, doing a quick grocery run for them, etc.
