Toddlers: 24 Months+

where did my perfect sleeper go

our son is 2 and since about 8 months he has been a breeze to put down, two books a kiss and down he went for 11 sound hours of sleep.  Ok ok - i suppose i was but cocky about it but because he was so easy in that department (we have our other challenges) i dont really know what to do.

All the sudden we put him in and he cries for an hour or so till we can't take it anymore and go up and either rock him or lay on his floor - he just wants you to be near him.  it may be two year molars or a cold but he seems fine as soon as you walk in.  I get it - its the terrible twos and he is more aware act...

That being said i dont really know what to do to make it better he used to be able to self soothe and if he woke up in the middle of the night he always worked it out himself with in about 5 min and now its the crying fit all over again.

I would love some help or suggestions on what to try tonight.  we are already planning on acemitiphin incase its ears or teeth and will keep him up an extra few min to make sure he is good and tired.  No other changes he still has his twilight turtle and sleep sheep so all that is the same.

thanks a million!

Re: where did my perfect sleeper go

  • The same thing happened to us.  DH and I were taking turns camping out on the floor of DS1's room because he would flip whenever we would leave.  After several weeks of it we decided we had enough and went the CIO route.  The first night it took an hour and a half of crying before he went to sleep.  The next night was a half an hour and the night after that just a couple minutes.  Things are back to normal now.  I know CIO isn't for everybody and it was hard to hear him crying for so long, but it really did help in our situation.

  • We have the same problem, we have to sit in her room till she falls asleep.  We really need to do CIO but we feel bad for her and sit there catching up online.

  • Same exact problem for us. We now have to make sure she is really tired and sit in her room until she falls asleep. We can't let her CIO anymore because she will climb out of the crib (going to a full size bed soon anyway).
  • My daughter is also doing this, but we just put her in a toddler bed and it's gotten a little bit better. A friend recommended a regular sized bed, which I am open to, but we don't have the room yet(we're looking to move).
