December 2010 Moms

What do you do when...

When your toddler falls asleep on the way to the grocery store? I've been sitting in the parking lot writing emails while she sleeps, but I'm running out of ways to be productive. Do I wake her up and deal with a cranky girl at the store? Or should I go back home and let her sleep? Times like this I really miss the infant seat and snap n go stroller...

Re: What do you do when...

  • ugh...I hate when that happens. Sometimes I'll wake Sam up and sometimes I'll let her sleep. It all depends on what kind of day she is having. :/

This, but I rarely go outside if I know it is nap-time..

  • I pretty much know if I move him either at the store or the house that he's going to wake up so I just do my shopping thing and pray that he doesn't get to evil on me.

  • Yep, I'm like the PPs.  Generally though, if it's been less than 15 minutes then I wake him.  If it's more, I let him sleep and assume that's unfortunately his nap for the day.

  • I wake him up, but the grocery store is only a few minutes from our house and I don't go at the usual naptime...

  • It wasn't nap time. It was 10:45 a.m. when we left the house. She usually doesn't nap until 1:30 or 2 p.m. I guess she was tired though. I remembered that I had a front carrier in the trunk, so I managed to squeeze her into that (in front of my 8 month pregnant belly) and do my shopping. She stayed asleep the whole time! It was the most productive shopping trip I've had in a long time. My back hurts a little, but it was totally worth it.

That is impressive! I have no answer because my kid is, unforunately, not a car sleeper.

That is awesome! I usually just wake him up and do my shopping. We normally go after DC and if he's really tired he will fall asleep before I get there

HOW did you do this? Any of it? My DS would have awoken with the move. He can't go in any carrier anymore. And the obvious one -- WHILE 8 mo PREGNANT! AMAZING!! I'm so glad it worked out for you!

  • I rarely go out at naptime - if I do, it's drive-through stuff, like the bank, which I did today.

Once we went to the mall in the morning & DS unexpectedly fell asleep on the way there. He woke up a little when I was putting him in the stroller & I told him to go back to sleep & he did, lol. He stayed asleep for almost the whole mall trip - I even took him into the shoe store & tried shoes on his feet while he was sleeping! I don't know what happened to my child that day b.c that is sooooo not like him! Of course DD was crying nearly the whole time though to make up for it ;)

I have no idea. As I was putting on the carrier I was thinking there was no way in hell it would work, and I guarantee it won't work next time. She woke up when I was putting her in there, but I told her to rest her head on my chest, and she snuggled up and went back to sleep. She's been a little clingy lately so I guess she enjoyed the snuggle time.

There was no nap at her usual nap time, but half the time I don't get that from her anyway.
