People's comments...

Anyone else sick of people commenting on how much your belly has grown?  I am almost 30 weeks pregnant- your stomach is going to grow- don't they know that??  It is like they are shocked and expected me to stay small throughout the whole pregnancy!

Silly rant...but it gets old :)

Re: People's comments...

  • It does get old, i have a co-worker in the next office that keeps calling me chubby, even yelled it across the bank when she was there when  i went to make the office deposit! I have only gained 15 pounds from where i was before i got pregnant!  Then a lady came into the office and asked the other girl if i was having a boy, my co-worker said yes, she said your nose will get bigger I had girls and i did not have a fat nose.  I was always taught if you dont have anything nice to say, dont say it! guess some people have never heard  that!

  • I feel like the only thing anyone ever says to me any more is: how are you feeling - is it a boy or a girl or a secret - what is the name???  Um, big.  And pregnant. Girl. Name is a secret. I need a placard or a shirt that says this so I don't have to anymore! Or maybe I should start giving out really private details that will stop them from asking another question ever again.... like, how are you feeling? - leaky, all over!

  • People keep saying "wow you popped". No kidding I popped I'm 30 weeks. I don't get how come they seem surprised.  It doesn't bother me that they are talking about my belly but it is like, you see me everyday are you really that surprised?

  • I work in a school so wednesday was the first day back after having almost 2 weeks off. Within the first two hours I had 3 comments on how big my belly was and 1 about how I look so small for 30 weeks. Before break at 28 weeks someone told me they had no idea I was pregnant..,, that's the only one that bothers me. I just want to ask if they thought I was getting a really fat stomach or something

My MIL kept telling me(up until a week or so ago) how I didn't look pregnant at all. I think she was trying to be nice but all I felt was "oh great I don't look pregnant I look fat!"

  • I have the opposite problem. I've only gained 5 pounds and my baby is growth restricted and I'm all belly and small at that. I am so tired of comments and shock when they find out I'm 31 weeks! When I wear a sweatshirt some people say they can't even tell I'm pregnant. It really hurts when they find out how far along I am and ask if every thing is okay, especially because it isn't. We are probably just super sensitive as pregnant ladies!!

DUDE, I love this idea.... A T-shirt with some fill-in-the-blanks spaces would be great!

    "Yes, I'm pregnant.

    I feel fine, thanks.

    It's a boy.

The name is none of your business."

Speaking of which, I had a nurse get pissy the other day because I wouldn't tell her the name: "Well, you're never going to see me again." Right, lady, so I don't owe you anything.

  • I was just thinking about this last night. I had been feeling very lucky over the last few months because no one had made any rude comments to me about my belly etc. Everyone had been incredibly supportive and complimentary.

    Until yesterday. :S

I'm also a teacher and was off on break for almost two weeks. We went back yesterday and two of my colleagues told me that I had really popped. I know that I hadn't. My bump is pretty much the same size as it was two weeks ago but the clothing I wear really makes a difference. I was wearing a very form-fitting, long sweater yesterday so my bump was very prominent (and cute, in my opinion...even in my plus-sized gloriousness. lol) I was just kind of annoyed because they made it sound like this bump came out of nowhere when I know it hasn't. I think they just noticed it more because they hadn't seen me in almost two weeks AND because of what I was wearing.

Also, another colleague, who was the very first person to touch my non-existent bump (when I was about 14 weeks along), asked me yesterday why I didn't have my baby over the holidays too (we know two ladies who had babies around Christmas...who were due between then and next week). I replied that it was a little early for me to be having my baby. She seemed shocked to hear that and then asked when I'm due again. I told her when. She continued to act shocked. Gee, thanks. :S I don't expect anyone to keep track of how far along I am so it may just be that she was surprised that I still have that long to go. But she made it sound like I should be having this baby any day now. Boo.

ETA: I know that my colleagues' comments were not mean at all. But their comments stung a little.

  • I hate belly rubbers, I hate "how are you feeling?" I have a Coworker that says at least twice a week "you stopped getting bigger." I just think really??? I'm measuring 5 Weeks ahead, so I'm guessing I didn't stop gettinf bigger.

I completely understand this!! People never think about how much the small comments can hurt also. DS1 was growth restricted and I carried him very low so I never looked pregnant. It would hurt when strangers made a comment about my size. I knew he was small and I felt guilty about my size!

  • I'm also a teacher, so after almost 2 weeks off, people have also been coming up to me and telling me I'm bigger. My response is usually "That happens."I just think they were too consumed by the holidays and being busy before vacation to notice me. The funny thing is I was measuring 29 weeks (3 weeks ahead) at 26 weeks. Today I was measuring 29 weeks, too. So I really don't look any bigger. It really depends on what I'm wearing more than anything else.

FWIW, I don't think you're being super sensitive.  I would imagine that the people that are asking you if everything is ok, it's probably none of their business anyway.  I say lie to them, or tell them to piss off.

OP, after a couple months of getting "Oh my god you're huge" "Are you sure it's not twins" and "You REALLY need to watch your weight gain", now this week I'm getting "you don't even look pregnant from behind" "you look so cute pregnant" "you're not waddling or anything!"   I don't know if in their heads 31 weeks is ok to look pregnant, but not 29, I don't know.  Either way, unless somebody says "I lost 20 lbs" and I'm telling them "you look great!", I don't think you should EVER comment on somebody else's body.  Period.  I don't understand all the people that think it's ok since I'm KU.
