inguinal hernia

N had a stomach bug 2 weeks ago and pooped 6 times by noon.  By the 6th time his tiny hiney was as raw as.. eh...  it was really raw and he was screaming bloody murder while I was trying to gently wash him off.  While he was screaming, I noticed an egg shaped lump rise out of his groin, about the size of my thumb.  My poor baby has a hernia and he has to go in for surgery on the 10th.  The surgeon said it has the potential to become very serious because the opening is so small, his intestines could pop through and not pop out as easily so we had to take the first available surgery.  He has to be put under general anesthesia and I am sick to my stomach over it.

Has anyone's LO had hernia surgery?

  • whoa.  How about that signature pic?!  I thought I removed that a week ago!  off to remove :)

Ok.  I can't get rid of it.  Help!?   I deleted my cookies and deleted the link and it's still there (obviously).

  • I know my brother had to have a hernia surgery when he was 7.  Go luck to you though!  Just remember they do these surgeries all the time, and he will be just fine!

  • I am sorry to hear that, poor LO. I am sure he will do great, don't worry too much.
  • Aww, poor little guy!! No experience with the hernia surgery, but Abby has been under general anethesia twice and she did very well -- and she was only 4 and 6 weeks old. If it's anything like Abby's surgery, hopefully it will go quickly and hopefully you'll get updates from the OR room. I totally know how you feel! Hope all goes well and there's no other future complication as a result of the hernia.

  • DH had hernia surgery as a baby.  It was when he was pretty small and everything went well.  I'm sure that N will be fine.  I'm sorry that he has to go through this and will be hoping for a quick, easy recovery.

  • Poor baby, and poor mommies. That's gotta be stressful. My nephew had to have hernia surgery when he was about the same age as our babies now and it was a twenty minute kinda deal. Put under and all, but the actual surgery was really that short. He recovered really quick and well too.

So, here's to a speedy recovery and I am so so sorry you guys have to deal with this.
