  • I just got home! I though Christiana was nice and the people were very nice but I think I'm going to stick with Union. There are some things I liked and some I didnt. I think the Union rooms are much nicer and accommodating. So here is what I gathered:

    Cons:

-At Union everything happened in the same room so I never had to move anywhere or change but at Christiana you go from triage to delivery to recovery to postpartum.

-The room seemed very small and cramped compared to Union.

-Christiana only uses Ameda pumps and my whole system is Medela which is what Union uses. Normally its not a big deal but if you are pumping the hospital gives you a whole parts package which is round $100 that insurance covers so its nice to have extra parts.

    - Union has a free lactation consultant at all times but Christiana only offers one free visit and the rest you have to pay for.

-Once mom gets discharged at Christiana she no longer gets staff and meal support but at Union you still get everything and get to stay in the same room with the baby that you have been in for the past 2-3 days. For example Annabelle had to stay in the hospital an extra day at the hospital because of Strep B and I got to keep my room with her, get free meals from the hospital and the staff support as if I was still a patient vs at Christiana the baby gets his/her own room but you have to leave the original room, no meals and no support.

    - Christiana does not offer birthing tubs, relaxation balls or any other equipment for birthing, you have to bring everything yourself but Union does offer it.

     - They do not allow dulas in triage, only during labor.

-Its a bit of a drive compared to 5 minutes or less it takes to get to Union.

    Pro's:

-They have a level 3 NICU which is nice if you need it

    - The staff was very nice

it was nice but because its so large they have a lot of procedures in place that does not allow for a lot of flexibility. One girl asked if she can labor squatting because she would like to try different positions and she was told no because the wires wont stretch that far and she has to stay in the bed. I remember Union encouraged me to move around and change positions I was just in too much pain to move lol I'm also sure there is more leeway than this tour nurse was letting on but she prob has to give us the proper answers so that she doesnt get i trouble. I'm glad that they kind of made the decision easy for me. Wow I wrote a lot lol

  • Now you know that you will stay with your same doctor. I bet that is somewhat of a relief.

Very much so, I was worried I would have to change doctors.

  • thats great that you made a decision though.  I didn't know Christiana didn't offer birthing tubs. that seems odd.

Were the other people there in all different stages of pregnancy?

Most were 20 weeks+ I just told them I'm not pregnant yet but ttc and since it depends on the doctor I can have nobody really said anything else.
